Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

Probably not. I'm satisfied that we have bent over backwards to provide everything within our power to entice him here. The timing was right, the money reportedly absurd, the staffing allowance historic in scope. If none of that lures him, it's on him. And that's ok....I came into this wanting us to TRY, to swing for the fences for once. There is evidence we are doing that.

Personally I believe we'll know, yes or no, tomorrow....just my opinion. I don't think writing Bev would influence anything but her blood pressure.
.

Exactly. This 100%. If we all recall back many threads ago Atlanta Vol said something along the lines of “you can’t just throw money at someone and expect them to come.” It sounds as if UT and our boosters have prepared a Saban like deal. If he ultimately says no, then no reason to jump off a cliff. The vols are in a much better position than they were on “Nuclear Sunday”. I want Gruden just like the rest of you. My chattanooga people have gone completely silent. Hopefully we hear good news.

It's a homerun staff any way you look at it. Miles is by far the most qualified guy we've publicly looked at.

He's not the splash Gruden would be, and we need that right now, but yes move us into the lead pack in the East almost immediately.

You wouldn't hear me grousing over that hire.

Add Austin Thomas to that and it looks even better.

Don't despair everyone.

It seems we threw everything we had at Gruden, but he doesn't want to coach.

Still some nice options out there, not a Gruden splash, but some solid coaches.

And there is always room on the Lane Train!!

I love the idea of Lane coming back, but even I know that ain't happening. We'll get June Jones before Phil brings in Lane.

Let me add this to reasons why I now believe Miles. I was as high as 80% Gruden. I am down 0.5% (never say never to nothin). My heart keeps saying Gruden but the mind says it's Miles.

1. Fulmer isn't going to make a risky hire.
2. Miles is sellable to the fan base (due to his credentials)
3. Fulmer and Miles are close friends.
4. Fulmer knows what he's getting with Miles (whereas he doesn't with Gruden).
5. Miles checks all the boxes that Fulmer wants in terms of offensive and defensive philosophies, a desire to be here, willing to allow Fulmer to dictate assistant coach hires, a championship pedigree and he won't break the bank. Miles will take the job for probably half what Gruden wants.

Bonus: We really don't even know if Gruden really wants to coach and if he does if college interests him at all.

Though I'm Gruden til it ain't, it pains me to say that the signs are all point to Miles.

Your number 1 makes no sense, good grief have you seen some of our choices and your calling Gruden risky? Sorry that doesn't fly with me AT ALL! Good grief saying Miles isn't any more risky than Gruden is crazy talk, and I know all the he hasn't coached college or recruited. I could give a rebuttal but it has been done a million times. But please I don't want to here risky hire, we have hired Dooley and Jones. Tried to hire Schiano and the Dorean. And Morris,Miles, and any other coach we go after is risky. Good grief.:thud:

And we do discuss quite a few things in here regardless of the name on the thread.

Plenty of Miles talk and Kiffin talk and the Pirate talk.

Now, we certainly could go out like the other mouthbreathers on this forum and start 15 different threads for the same topic. Or we could just get everything in one nice neat package.

Ever since yesterday I just want them to leave.

Chattanooga people huh..? TP?

I am 110% sure that we are doing that on the booster side.

I am less convinced that Fulmer is accepting to a T everything that boosters would be pitching at Gruden.

Most notably. Full Control and the AAV on the salary. I can see Fulmer scoffing at making him the highest paid coach in college football when he hasn't walked a sideline in a decade. Similarly on the control. The leaks that we do have make it clear that Fulmer wants some VFL's on the staff. That's hardly full control for Gruden.

I want to believe, so walk me back from the ledge.

There are plenty of great coaches outside of Gruden. Fulmer wants the best for the program. He's working with boosters who have put their reputation on the line to make this work.

We'll be fine.

I don't see this hanging over til Wednesday. With the HOF banquet starting Tuesday and Wednesday it would be Thursday Before we heard anything.

Gruden answer leaked and confirmed tonight

Miles leaked tomorrow.

So you are saying that Gruden will be confirmed "NO" tonight, and Miles is leaked as a "YES" tomorrow?

If Gruden officially says no, I would get this deal done immediately before we hear "I would like to introduce the new head coach of Tennessee, Chad Morris"...

Fulmer realizes the wrath of VN and it doesent need to happen again this early in his AD career. There is absolutely no way Morris is a legit candidate. Nothing about Morris says committed to championships. There are candidates who get legit interviews and those who get fluff interviews. Morris is the fluff

No matter what CPF decides, we need to get behind him and support his decision. I trust that he will do what is best for the University and the football program. Remember this quote from his "resignation" press conference? "I love Tennessee too much to let her stay divided." After all the shat he's been through I think we'll lucky to even have him back in this role.

It troubles me a little that a lot of posters believe CPF could make an emotional decision based on dislike for one coach and being friends with another. I hope he likes GRUDEN!
