"Ergen, Thornton, & Davis, among others, had enough of Haslam's pick for AD botching the coaching hire & embarrassing our/their alma mater. It was becoming a bad reflection on them as businessmen to be portrayed in such a bad light nationally, since they are known to be prominent donors to UT.

They gave Davenport an ultimatum & she called Currie in off the road. He went anyway on a plane owned by one of his KSU donors at his former school, which is why no one could find him or contact him yesterday.

Peyton had aligned himself with the Haslams, & one rumor is that he has been offered a piece of the Browns to run them when they inevitably clean house for the second time at the end of the season. Other rumors abound that the Haslams have promised the Mannings they will help them be able to acquire another NFL franchise or a piece of one.

Leach is really interested in this job, but probably won't get it now. That's a real shame, because he & Kiffin are the two best coaches we could have hired, & Spurrier said so today on Finebaum. They know how to recruit & build a staff & run offenses that deploy their weapons to the utmost on the field.

Just a few hours ago, it was Haslam & Manning aligned on one side, pitted against Ergen, Thornton, & Davis on the other. They contacted Fulmer, who met them at the airport. Haslam & Manning wanted Sigmon named interim AD. The others wanted Fulmer & said they were ending their donations if he wasn't given the job on some basis.

Ergen was giving $35M annually to UT when Fulmer was here as coach & has only given $10M annually since. He told UT he would make up for any shortfall in what the Haslams may withhold.

You can tell that Davenport is in way over her head in this job & was visibly shaken at the press conference. She didn't know how to answer any of the questions.

The reason Currie didn't use a search firm is that he was given a list of 3 coaches to interview by Haslam that Davenport signed off on. In order, they were 1. Gruden, 2. Kelly, & 3. Schiano. Gruden was already signed & ready to come, as some of these other boosters had already gotten his agreement, but Haslam nixed the hire because Gruden wanted total control of the program like Saban has at Bama & Meyer at OSU, & Haslam was determined not to let go of his control of everything.

By the time Currie got to Kelly, he had already been approached by both Florida & UCLA, & had decided to go to one of those places. Currie went to the Bahamas knowing he was going to offer Schiano when he got back home. It was only when the firestorm hit on Sunday that Currie had to go beyond the original Haslam list, which is when we got started getting turned down by so many others. Currie made a last ditch attempt to save his job by going for Leach, but he wasn't authorized by Haslam or Davenport to be contacted.

Now, the rest of this is speculation, but maybe more educated guess than conjecture:

Cutcliffe, now age 63, & Miles, age 64, will be the two top targets now for HC, with Tee Martin as OC brought in under either of them & groomed to be their successor. That's the plan. Might involve Chavis or Steele as DC. Should have a hire within 48 hours.

Not sure where they will go if this plan doesn't fall through. Only thing that bothers me about Fulmer in this search is that there will probably be no "outside the box" thinking & any new blood other than Tee. Also, he went with Currie to interview Doeren in NC & had signed off on his hire, which would have been a disastrous hire, so it was just fortuitous for us that he turned us down."

Wow!! Just Wow!!

From OldVol74 on VQ.. interesting post

"Apply a little logic here people...

Now, would Gruden still accept? Who knows?

But anyone saying that the actions of the last 6 days wouldn't make any candidate step back because of all of the negative national media, then you're not being fair. If Gruden accepted now, he'd be burning every bridge with the media group he works for because they've spent the last 6 days saying what a bunch of losers we are.

Believe what you will. I've been around this program a long time and it’s been my privilege to meet a lot of very influential folks."

I disagree with OldVol74's conclusion.

I've seen media do a 180 in about a half second, once they realize that the story has moved on.

Gruden knows how to schmooze. I'd say he'd know how to handle media guys with wounded pride.

I would think that this would be the last negative that he'd be worrying over.

Ergen said he would make up the difference in whatever Haslam doesnt contribute.

What's your source for that, Raging?

Because other "insiders" here have hinted in previous threads that Ergen stayed largely disengaged from all this, and that it was Anderson, Thornton and others who were in the thick of it.

The Grude News, the morning edition. For those just joining us...

OX0yQ.gif

I'm not sure even where to start after yesterday's events. But I'll start with my utmost admiration at what my Vol Brothers and Sisters pulled off in the last week. Never before has a fan base ever even come close to doing what we did to get done what we knew we had to. In one word: amazing. We went from downtrodden masses after a complete disaster of a season to energized and focused on a single goal. Don't listen to the media or the idiots on SEC Nation. We did it by showing the leadership at UT and, in turn, the world what we were all about. The Power T isn't dead and we showed them it's a lifestyle, not a logo.

PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THE WHOLE POST!

This morning, we'll have kind of a hybrid of what I've done. Maybe be a bit long, but enjoy.

We woke up dreading what was coming at us, knowing full well Currie had been in California. Now, we didn't think Mike Leach was a horrible hire, but remembered it was Currie and we were like.

cabin-fever.jpg

But decided to get up anyway and see what damage had been done:

1.jpg

But found we were still coach-less at the moment (little Leo for the ladies):

sigh-of-relief-gif-11.gif

Somehow, we decided in our minds Currie was at our breakfast table. That's how bad our anger has been:

giphy.webp

But managed to make it through the morning without further incidents. Not until we got into the car at least:

tenor.gif

And saw our favorite Bammer car on the way to work:

2653-road-rage.gif

But forgetting we were taking the kids to school that morning:

scared-children-wrapped-bubble-wrap-in-car-picture-id86438748

Got to work and commenced on our email campaign:

giphy.webp

And made our phone calls (again):

tenor.gif

We even had a protest planned out by one of our own Queens, Sara:

20dm4o.jpg

But then, news started to leak about Currie being recalled:

tumblr_inline_mwkvcmSRKp1s05k56.gif

And possible news he was being removed:

tenor.gif

More and more media was reporting it:

tenor.gif

We had done it! He was being removed! It was like our Hail Mary, last second shot had been pulled off!

However, our celebration was short lived as another name popped into the conversation. Reid Sigmon, a man Currie hired:

giphy.webp

So, our email and phone calls doubled:

giphy.webp

But all the sudden, a name surfaced. A name we could all get behind. A man respected enough to take the helm:

20dndu.jpg

But we were scared. Was it only rumor?

giphy.webp

But then...UT updated the website with the news!

1254334927_celebration-dance.gif

And he had a press conference that afternoon. Exuding confidence and raising our own:

Phillip%20Fulmer_1512164101179_29762987_ver1.0_640_360.JPG

And said "we're going to make winning championships fun again."

We were ecstatic! We called everyone!

And texted:

And called some again:

3bfde0ff0827c8505e6e541af88e1293a3ca7a39c8f6bc074a68da2ce6e67aad

And sent our thanks to the UT Admin for the narrowly dodged bullet:

5460_900.gif

And we celebrated:

titles_1666_29061.gif

Some, a little more than others:

20do1e.jpg

Which continued into the evening:

giphy.webp

We celebrated with our coaching search family on here while Faceless provided the musical entertainment with her air guitar:

Wild @s a Mink even cut a little rug after sending approximately 1,843,823 Tweets:

tumblr_nq5j10vndv1rjn473o5_250.gif

And Faceless broke out the vodka:

giphy.webp

And celebrations ensued through the evening:

giphy.gif

ho1aO.gif

Even Freak allowed us to let our hair down, but implored us not to get out of control:

giphy.webp

It got a little close to the edge:

ObDGa.gif

TennGirl got flirty with this reporter again:

tumblr_nqapassNXh1sgl0ajo1_500.gif

But eventually, we started dropping out:

tenor.gif

And to wake up this morning and realizing it wasn't a dream:

9a4057616fb9c8c1b4e9cc6880fc149d6235f82d6696bb8a9154dbf35c166c4a

And will likely cause more celebrations today:

fa7713236ba1cf4c6e7e95a5852ea4e0.gif

Because folks started talking again. Our "insiders" started talking again. Is this guy really back in play?

gruden1.gif

Could he really come to Tennessee?

gruden-ihopeso.gif

Which causes us to go back into a wait and see stance:

As we continue today...

Oh I agree. Just saying the way the information was posted was in a way that wasn't meant to be hopeful.

Yeah I wasn’t arguing that just trying to understand why would we not be willing to press him even more now that the cancer has been removed or lost power. It’s almost as if it was done for nothing. I mean I know it needed to happen but why not go after the prize that you’re focused on

Okay, let me say the obligatory Gruden to the Hill, Gruden til it ain't.

Second, if I understand correctly, when Cut turned us down last week, it was to the effect of, "I won't work for that administration." Then, Director Fulmer mentioned in is presser that coaches who previously weren't interested before will be now.

Soooo, I really feel like Cut may be approached to see if he wants to come in and right the ship as he closes out his career, grooming Tee to take over when he retires. If they assembled a staff that had some orange ties, this could work.

Third, same with Miles. It would be a bigger splash nationally, but wouldn't splash as big with volnation as Cut.

jmo tifwiw bbq

:twocents:
hmmm so if Gruden was ready, then after this turn of events and shift, why would we not go back and get the guy who was #1 on the list?

Here my take on Gruden ... is ain't coming. He is working the press, the university, and the fans, heck, anyone that follows college football. A legit person of character would have either confirmed something by now or squashed the rumours. Lots of time, money, and effort wasted. Respect tends to lessen with someone in the news that doesn't acknowledge hardly anything.

Now, with that off my chest, he's bound to accept the position later today! ;)

The Grude News, the morning edition. For those just joining us...

[4,000 images, none of them hidden inside SPOILERS]

From the entire Volnation News Team, I'm Grand Vol and alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

Heh, you're killing me man. Really fun read, but you're killing me. :)

[quoted the whole damn thing]

Well done.

You too, dude. :)

Dunno what it is, but the water helps more than anything. Probably some kind of electrolytes - Pedialyte works well. That being said so does hanging a 1000cc bag of lactated ringers on yourself before you go up bed.

Hangover symptoms are mainly dehydration induced.

A note in preparation for the announcement of the new HC:

1. Eat first. Get some carbs in you before you get really going --bread, pasta, etc. It slows down the ETOH consumption absorption.

2. Hydrate while you drink. Just water is fine during the drinking stage.

3. B-complex vitamin doesn't hurt before you pass out, as long as you still have some food in your stomach.

4. Ibu before passing out.

5. Diluted PowerAde, Pedialite etc in the morning.

6. Something bland like toast in the morning.

7. Proceed with caution.

Gruden to the Hill!

edited step 1 Duh me.

Gameday didn't kill us as bad as i thought they would.

reese davis said he talked to fulmer this morning about the reports he meddled and undermined currie, and reported that fulmer said he had nothing to do with it, that he in fact made calls and visited a coach at the behest of currie.

don't misunderstand, it wasn't a support piece, but it was much softer than what we've heard heretofore.
