Official Jon Gruden Thread XLV

Totally agree. They realized after Sunday they would have to get it done under the cover of night this time, so Volnation would be sleeping and not torpedo the deal. Chad Morris is gonna be the new coach IMO.

So do I , heck Haslam is destroying a NFL and college team at the same time. The only thing that is going to change is let this University wake up and there is 30-60k people standing out there demanding Currie,Davenport and Haslam to get the he11 out and stay out.

IF the Gruden interest is real as has been presented, then (IMO), that card must be played in public, sooner rather than later and you must force Davenport's and DiPietro's hand.

In other words, Currie and Haslam must be publicly humilated. It has come to that. When they played the Schiano card, the booster faction must man-up and take the gloves off and Gruden must Shiz or get off the pot.

It's the last card to play. Honestly, isn't that what Beaver, MIT, etc came here for. They said VN would be a player this time. Make it public that it is Gruth not Grumors and let Vol Nation take it from there.

I dont think thats why they protested to begin with. I think they protested because nobody wanted him and the fans are sick and tired of throwing their money away on these pathetic coaches that TN has hired before. From what I was seeing at first when the fans were going off was the simple fact that Currie was hiring Butch 2.0 and then all of a sudden the Penn St stuff started coming out. Either way if CM is hired the University better be prepared to lose money because thats what is going to happen

I agree but the pedophilia part is what caused them to flinch imo...otherwise they would have went through with it.

Pretty sure the boosters who were blind sided and the legislators that contacted UT President Pietro.

I agree. Pissed off bosters definitely had a hand in this, but I wouldn’t be suprised if someone close to the situation at higher level than the “leaker to the press” used their connections with law makers to quickly blow this up on a slow Sunday. Just seemed to spread quickly for what is said to be a rogue job with Currie & Haslam

We do have alumni that are in major roles within the state so I'm sure there are tons of connections and friendships

Kinda wish Mit wouldn't have hinted at the plan earlier. There are people in the AD that read these threads. Seemed like the Morris talk picked up shortly after.

Agreed, Schiano was the perfect sh#@ storm candidate and Currie found him. Then he expected us to just accept it. It blows my mind how out of touch that guy is.

I thought the Gundy leak was a smokescreen today but not for the purposes of hiring another coach. The Gundy news broke suspiciously close to the article regarding Jimmy being on audio recordings of those scam training sessions. I assumed it was to divert attention away from that story. Who knows at this point.

The reason I think it was a smoke screen is that way Currie can say he tried swinging for the fence and it did not work and we had to get a coach in here for recruiting blah blah blah crap. Thinking the fans will say well at least he tried to get a top coach in here.

If they pull some middle of the night crap Tennessee fans need to storm to the hill in protest. It's for the greater good at this point. Haslam is going to drag this university right down the tubes if something isn't done. SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell you both may be right. Pilot is turning in a history of corruption. Look how dishonest our AD is. ...”we will hire with integrity and great morale character, money is no object, blah blah blah”. Anything to save face at this point. Dicks

Kiffin left under the cover of darkness, and the people burned mattresses and rioted. Currie may hire Butch II under the cover of darkness as we sleep. What happens if he does? If it happens, I'm done.

Can someone clear something up for me?

It seems as if many in this thread use "Haslem" when referring to the individual interfering with the AD.

My understanding is that Jim is the Haslem who is interfering. NOT his son Jimmy.

Jimmy is the one facing Federal investigation.

Jimmy getting convicted or not will have no bearing on the interference occurring with his dad, correct?

IMO it is a family affair.

Big Jim is getting long in the tooth. Yes, old Jim is the bane of UT athletics.

How much Pilot Jimmy is involved with his dad on UT side, I don't know.

Bill, as govenor, is by default head of the UT BoT (board of trustees).

I don't see the Haslam's taking the fall for the Pilot stuff, they will pay a few million to some lackey's family to go to jail for a few years and when he gets out he will be set.

and by jail I mean some white collar/resort minimum security jail.

Me either and stated as much in earlier post. I just thought it would be funny, if his Daddy screwing up our coach hire, caused enough employees with knowledge to rat out his son.

Everything Currie/Haslam is doing is not for the good of UT or its fan base. For Haslam its all about power and control. This fan base may explode again.

I think they envisioned VN participation (on the various electronic platforms) as finished prior to Schiano.

We were the POC (proof of concept) of the financial viability of a Gruden-like hire and how social media platforms could be used to marshall various factions in changing the UT athletics paradigm away from the Haslam-rule. JMHO.

They were blindsided and underestimated Haslam's control over Currie and his willingness to do his bidding at ALL costs.

The fact that the cultivation of VN occured early in the process allowed the booster faction to re-engage VN when this unexpected turn of events with Schiano went down. Haslam/Currie underestimated VN.

Poppa, if SFD were reading this, she would say you are right on target. A mobilized VN was an insurance policy for the good guys, and it paid off on Sunday.
