Got got a ESPN tracker advising Jason Whitten won't leave Cowboys to take Tennessee HC job! Seriously, we are now this desperate to take a pro football player as a HC who has never coached a game in his life.

This is now just getting plain downright stupid at this point and a embarrassment in front of the whole country watching!!! SMDH

This was a Clay Travis deal. Witten was or never has been part of the HC talks. Simmer down.

Does anyone think we see a potential decrease in enrollment for this upcoming fall due to this fiasco?

My son is a junior in high school. He plans to go to UT, but now he's waiting to see what happens. This morning he said, "There are two other schools closer and equal considering the major I'm interested in. If UT football is going to suck, no reason to move seven hours away."

Consider this, the 4 ESPN hosts currently trashing Tennessee: Booger, Kirk, Desmond, and Stephen A Smith all have something very much in common. They are represented by CAA (Creative Artists Agency). Guess who is a lead agent for CAA... Jimmy Sexton. Greg Schiano's agent. Fact check me. I dare you. It makes so much sense why UT is being trashed by "elite" college football figures. Jimmy Sexton is feeding them info to get them to make Tennessee look bad. The fans ousted and toppled not only Schiano but Sexton by uniting together to fend off a coach we were not willing to accept. Sexton appears to be quite the sore loser."

Thought it was to interesting not to post.

Vols stopped Schiano and we can remove Currie.

DO NOT STOP !!! GO VOLS !!!

Look, I’m beyond proud of VolNation for blowing up social media. But we were just a part of this, and let’s be real. It’s the 73 legislators and boosters who stopped it, not fans. If our opinions mattered to the University, then Schiano would have never been looked at. Money is the only language they understand and money on our side is the only way out of it. We need to appeal to boosters, if we only knew which ones are on our side. I thought Peyton was, but I was wrong.

Back by popular (or something like that) demand. The recap of yesterday, in pictures.

So, we started the day by waking up happy, because it was going to be a Grude day:

And then we got hit with the CBS article talking about Gruden and UT talking:

And then someone dropped a bomb about a meeting in the AD:

I think they all actually believed Schiano is a homerun for little ol Tennessee and that we're just ignorant. They don't regret doing it. They regret we reacted that way, but to them it's our fault for being ignorant hicks and not any error in judgment on their part. That's how our AD, President, Chancellor and literally every national sports media member looks at it. They think we suck and as such should shut up and accept literally any person trotted out there lest we be a "toxic" fan base. It is very similar to the out of touch attitudes of Washington politicians.

I was all Gruden all the way. I'm mad as hell about all of this. Many of you here should be mad as hell at the mighty beaver. He straight up lied and trolled all of you. Don't let him be a "victim" in all this. Remember, "these guys don't miss." He doesn't get to be a victim. And now some are trying to prop up and repair this line of crap? Don't be suckered into this any further. You are the victims. Victims of the UTAD, administrators and victims of a mighty mighty troll job.

I am writing to you as a native Knoxvillian, University of Tennessee alumni, Walters Scholar, and long-time fan of Tennessee football. I have long been proud of my state, of the beautiful East Tennessee area, of our hospitality, and of course of our flagship school, the University of Tennessee. The day that I graduated was one of the most proud moments of my life, and I have proudly spoken of my alma mater and have continued to support the University in the 16 years since I graduated.

However right now, I have never been more ashamed of my school. John Currie, along with Beverly Davenport and whatever booster(s) supported this hire, has made a national embarrassment of the University of Tennessee. Greg Schiano? Somebody who was associated with the Penn State/Sandusky debacle was our first choice? Somebody who may have known that Sandusky was raping children and didn’t report it? After we had to settle a Title IX lawsuit?

Not to mention his football credentials: Somebody who barely had a .500 record in an easy conference? Somebody who by all accounts was more abusive to players and staff than Butch Jones? Somebody who LOST to Butch Jones?

The day after the WORST season ever in Tennessee football, and we were about to name this person as the leader of the University of Tennessee football program? As our first choice?

Really?

How are we supposed to take our children to games and cheer on a team led by this person? How are we supposed to accept that he will be leading and molding young men into decent, educated, upstanding citizens? How are we supposed to accept him as a leader in our community? How are we supposed to accept that this was the first choice for our distinguished school? In a season where there are plenty of available and qualified coaches and tremendous upheaval in the college football world?

After yesterday, we, the citizens of Tennessee, Tennessee alumni, and casual Tennessee fans, have zero faith in John Currie, Beverly Davenport, any member of the administration or any booster (Haslam) to make decisions for our university.

John Currie needs to resign, forcefully if needed, and a new Athletic Director needs to be appointed so that we can start this search over.

Our fanbase is passionate and proud, and we have supported our university through good times and bad. We deserve far better than this dumpster fire of an athletic program and this negative national publicity.

If things don’t turn around, you will lose the 100,000+ people that meet at Neyland Stadium on Saturdays in the fall, as well as all their money, merchandise sales, advertising revenue, and support of local businesses, not to mention the number of quality scholars and donor money for both athletics and academics. This will hurt the value of a University of Tennessee education. This will hurt the state of Tennessee and even more so the greater Knoxville community, and it will be entirely John Currie’s fault for being completely disconnected and tone-deaf to what is needed in this athletic program.

General Neyland is rolling in his grave right now, and I have never been more ashamed of and disappointed in our administration.

this was great.....suggestion though

-BE BRIEF.

-USE BULLET POINTS in the Email.

you dont really buy into this guy anymore do you? he is the guy who said weeks ago not days....weeks ago gruden deal was done signed sealed...he knows nothing

Yes, I do. It makes sense. The only play Currie has is to try to make a hire before he is fired. Its a desperate attempt, but it's all he has. I think he is done regardless, but Haslam is determined to not let other boosters have their way, to show them he still runs the show. The only other play Davenport has is to desert Haslam and join the other side. If she doesn't, she is toast.

If gruden truly has agreed to terms, especially signed a binding contract. Why would that not be leaked by his camp and the boosters who were involved in that? Wouldn’t that surely be the nail in Curries coffin here?

Additionally if Gruden has signed some sort of binding contract, how would he not be owed the same compensation schiano is reportedly seeking?

These are legit questions, no blue font involved.

Forget the compensation part - if any of what Beaver & AV said is true, they need to go public with Gruden too - We cant even get a consensus in this thread, I dont see #FireCurrie gaining traction on Twitter, everyone focused o hiring a coach - I fear all is lost.

Made my calls and then forced the wife to make her calls, she didn't like it bc she isn't as die hard as I, but I played my pocket aces and told her she'd promptly be cut off.

I don't believe Haslam, Currie, or anyone is intentionally trying to destroy the football program. That makes no sense. Instead, I believe this to be a fine example of the combination of arrogance and incompetence leading to a bad outcome.

Here's my question: Who on the UT side has to sign the contract to hire the new coach? Just Currie? Currie and Davenport? Currie and ?????
