You can buy a $2000 pup from a breeder, but if you don't teach it anything, the only thing he will be proficient at after 4 years is licking himself. Good teachers and coaches can take 2 stars and make them great, (look at the Draft...lot of 2 and 3 starts get drafted). I know we always worry about recruiting, but I want someone who can develop talent. It would be nice to have both, however.

I agree...the whole 'recruiting ranking' dynamic is just media construct to maintain viewership. Butch, somehow, learned to bottle it and sell it as snake oil.

ID'ing top prospects is always fun but it's gotten ridiculous.

I've watched every game I could since I was 9 years old. I barely watched any of the last 3 games. I just couldn't bear it anymore. I try to keep a positive attitude and be a happy person. UT football has been more depressing than fun. We need someone who is the real deal and can fix things from top to bottom.

Same for me. Over 50 yrs. a Vol fan and I've never felt this bad about where the program is right now and how pivotal the next coach is. We have way too many people willing to settle for a good coaching hire. That's not what we MUST have right now. We MUST have a GREAT coaching hire or the fan base is going to implode. IMO, there are only three hires that measure up: Gruden, Saban, Belichick. Our only shot is Gruden.

I'm at 75% and if what I'm being told is true, we get the announcement of our HC within next 72 hours. I have no reason to not believe what im being told. The one thing i will say and this is just a little info from me. I would not be surprised if this starts swinging toward petersen. I've read between the lines on some things I've gotten from my other source. That's why I'm holding at my 75%.
