Official Jon Gruden thread XL

Bubba, in his usual, understated manner, sent us a coded message, "Gruden to the hill soon."

MIT came on and dispensed with any symbolism, and said Gruden was coming.

Atlanta Vol came on, and while not stepping on any announcement of a hire, cheerfully suggested adding some golfing to MIT's planned formal Gruden Party.

Knucklehead and Orangepill both confirmed Gruden signed last Tuesday.

I'd say today was a pretty big deal on our little corner of the interwebz.

:)
Little my ass. This place is huge! But hey... I'm honestly glad I was here for this gruden thread string. It's been alot of fun. For sure.

I just wanted my kids to go to college. I had a son that graduated from Memphis (journalism), a daughter that graduated from the University of Canberra (teacher), a step daughter that graduated from Ole Miss (accounting with Masters of taxation), a son that graduated from ETSU (computer science), and last but not least my step son who's not doing very well at Tennessee!
Is your step son on the football team? I kid lol

Absolutely love the Duke and Clint westerns but I hate remakes they are always disappointing not because the movie isn’t good but like with True Grit , if it’s not JW wearing that eye patch and ridding across that open field with the reins in his mouth .. it’s just not True Grit

Two remakes I did like were 3:10 to Yuma and True Grit. But neither was as good as the originals IMO.

Ron Slay is one of my best friends actually...

I remember being in high school and sneaking out of class because Ron Slay and Vincent Yarbrough were in the gym shooting. I walked in and Vincent walked off the floor to talk to some girl and Slay was shooting 3's by himself. Gym teacher told me to go rebound for him so I did and it was the coolest thing ever for a VOL fan like me.

I had one experience with him, and it was awesome.

Back in 2010 (I think), when they unveiled the Neyland statue and I was in school at UT, I went to the event and he was there. I was just standing there admiring the thing and suddenly an older gentleman came up and put his hand on my shoulder and didn't say much, just looked at the statue- it was Mr. Lauricella.

After a minute I worked up the nerve to talk to him. He had been at UT at the same time as my granddad, and so I talked to him about that era (early 1950s). He was extremely friendly and signed my program from the event for my granddad.

I also got to talk to Coach Fulmer and tell him the 1990s were my formative football years and that I'll always be grateful for what he did for those teams. And last, before I left, I got to shake Archie Manning's hand.

Cool experience, soaking in tradition, standing with and speaking with actual lore and legend of UT, had to be incredible. You, your granddad, does it get any better than that? :hi:

What’s the word in the street this morning? Last I remember, goats, beavers, apes, were roaming around the forums like wild animals last night giving everyone massive Grudeons. I hear that was even some talk of “lady wood” around these parts. We still good this morning?

Favorite Vol all time other than Peyton?

Football would be Heath Shuler.

Basketball would be Chris Lofton or Ron Slay.

I was always a fan of James Stewart. Just thinking about the teams he was on I get that feeling of smash mouth football. Big linemen and running the ball down the other team's throat.

I also enjoy the memories of Reggie White visiting a game and seeing him tower over spectators as he walked out of the stadium.
