I don’t know what percent of people here think is is realistic, but for your own sake, be highly skeptical of Gruden until you literally hear it from HIS mouth.

I feel like so many things have to go right, and I could see anything from a stubborn booster to the Colts job coming open ruining this entire thing. And that’s if he wants the job, which most people (again, I don’t know what Boro/DTO knows) seem to think will probably not be be case.

Don't disagree with the bold at all. If it doesn't happen this time, it wont be because UT didn't make a realistic offer. While it would suck, its a good sign considering the past.

I asked the person that I heard it from who is very well respected. He doesn't have enough confidence in that to say "Gruden turned us down, it's over." So, until then or until Butch is fired and the PC is scheduled for Jon, I'll still believe there is a very strong chance of us snagging our man. Currie wants him. Fulmer apparently is on board with Currie and has told people this week "we'll get our man this time." And we already know Peyton's influence and smart decision making.

Let is play out. Lyle Jones is still the HC, so UT doesn't even want "Butch is out on Sunday/Monday" type stuff to leak right now out of respect for Butch, the team, and this weekend's game, MUCH LESS any Grumors. They're going to work to squash those hardcore for now. Even if Butch was fired right now, as @TNmavol has said over and over and over, there is a process in place for hiring a new coach... trust the process

Here’s the problem though. No one will ever believe we made a serious run at him because every time it’s mentioned to any of the mainstream media, it’s blown off and laughed at. Jon won’t admit it either. So we’re left with “message board rumors” of which no one other than us will believe. The perception of our program will be the same: we can’t land a big time coach.

You know, I've been a skeptic from the get-go that this would happen (unlike in 2012, when I was 100% convinced...younger then...more impressionable, etc.), but the longer I've hung around these threads, the more I want to believe...and the more deflating it will be if it is confirmed that he said no. Then, we're at the point where whomever we hire will be a letdown (again). 2012 Part Deux.

The dip sh!@#s that were starting drama with the OG'S last night should be banned. The bullsh#$t they endured after last time( started posting in OG VII) and now last night. They were just trying to discretely pass on some potentially great news for Vol fans. The phrase "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" comes to mind.If I this does indeed work out anything like was said, I hope all the dickh#!ds will at least be man enough to sack up and eat the sh$t sandwich they have coming.

Just because we don't land Gruden (or we do, I have no clue) doesn't equal us not being able to land a big time coach. There are some out there that we could bring here.

That sucks about Gruden. But hopefully it means they are committed to getting a homerun and aren't like, "Well at least we tried to get Gruden...Alright! On to Brohm or Frost or Satterfield!"

How did you come to the conclusion that Gruden is not coming?

The most reliable poster on TOS said the AD office has not heard from Gruden ????

No, he's the one that was saying that it was moving in the direction to hire Gruden. He's responding to those that said Gruden turn it down.
