But how does that translate to being a lights out recruiter? Nothing from him says great recruiter but some on here are ready to anoint him as such just because at TN he would be in the SEC and that would make ALL the difference.

Without great recruiting, we will continue on our path to mediocrity. I just don't see Strong as that great recruiter.

He has ties in Florida, and he would most likely hire assistants who can recruit. Other than Fisher, who else is a stellar recruiter? Not Fedora, not Golden.

Sitting here with 3 Georgia fans watching the game... GUCK FEORGIA!

I have witnessed persoanlly GA fans throwing bottles at the UT player's bus before.

I have also witnessed GA fans throwing hot dog buns at UT fans that are walking with their small children.

I have also witnessed a coach running the entire team out on the field after a score knowing that they would get a penalty...

After this and other things I can't remember atm, I LOATHE GA.

But I also went out with a super hot girl in the 90's from GA so that sorta throws a wrench in it :p

I don't want Jimbo Fisher. Ugh. Hope the rumors aren't true that he might be our coach.

Everybody was b*****-- about firing Dooley. Now they b**** about every name that comes up.(except for Gruden i guess). Fisher, Strong, or others being mentioned are an upgrade from Dooley. Some are gonna complain no matter what.

You're not just basing your decision on the coach, but the school along with the coach. Not a lot of players going to play for Saban at an FCS school. Not enough tv exposure and chances are lower to get to the league.

I understand all this and I agree. I'm just worried about a guy that went 7-6 7-6 and then had one good year. I need more consistency to feel comfortable hiring someone like that. It just seems like HUGE gamble

Your opinion of whether is the right guy is totally cool. I was just saying that the article is accurate as far as the interest of Gruden in the coaching job, which is what a lot of people here are arguing about.

And if by honorable you mean old school journalistic integrity, then you are correct. Sadly, most "news" outlets are more concerned with splash than fact.

I believe that guy in Chatt myself.....

I found this site after being a UT fan for 31 years because of this thread. My father has been on this site since 2003, when it started and TOS as well. I enjoyed watching this thread and posting very little. It gave me hope for UT football and I still believe that Gruden is our next coach.
How can we turn on those that gave us information? As I recall, most of us begged them for any bit of info they could get. We were told by people many dates of when this could happen. We also know that there is a power struggle in the AD office with the boosters. The Chatt Times writer gives me hope. The words from Gruden's Agent were released from the KNS, from the office of the AD. I do not believe it was officially from Gruden's Agent and it was a ploy to drive us away from Gruden as our main target because Hart and the boosters are at odds. The AD and the boosters have been giving there respective people info that contradicts each other since the start. Whether if Dooley got fired, when Dooley gets fired, who is our next coach, if Gruden is our next coach, Yes he is our next coach, never talked to gruden, blah blah blah. All this has been said and contradicted from posters to Basillo to Ainge... ETC. I believe in the end this works out. Even when asked for a comment Grudens agent later on has said he has no comment.
I want to thank those that gave information that they passed on. If you give them a hard time, I feel bad for you. That is not the way of a gentleman, nor a Tennessee fan as I was raised. I respect everyone till they cause me to lose respect. I still respect you all.
None of you will know who I am or will remember this. But I found a lot of comfort in an uncomfortable time here in this thread and this site. I wish the best for this program and this site.
I am, however, disgusted at our incisive need to just take it and give up. We have lost our fight as fans of a distinguished proud program and as I watch this SEC championship game I find myself in remembrance of our "glory" days. Those days when an Alabama AD would have sickened me. When a Gator Chancellor was out of the question. We have proud graduates of UT that can fill these positions and that SHOULD be done. I am sick of being kicked around and looked on with pity.

Flame all you want. I understand what this leads to. It's time to rise and say It's Football Time In Tennessee. It is time to reclaim our school and it's proud tradition. What was once great can be great again. I will not give up and I do not want to see us settle anymore.

Until I hear otherwise,

We Are Worth It.

We are Tennessee.

and I support the future of Tennessee.

Thank you for letting me be apart of this for a few months.

Don't give up, Never settle..

Dana Holgerson???

They would have to put a clause in his contract that says he has to wear a hat...cant look at him as a serious coach with that hair…looks like he should be in an 80’s van trying to hand out candy in a school zone.

Do we have to post pictures of Neyland with all the empty seats?

The fans showed where they stood on Dooley and will do it again in a heart beat except this time it will be even worse if a lackluster hire is made.

The reasonable fans supported DD very hard as the florida game proved until he proved he wasn't the guy. Whoever the new coach is will get the same support as DD don't you think???
