Boomworthy imo.

I am all for discussing the search some in this thread as long as Freak lets us, but its time to just put this Gruden thing to bed. Bottom line is he said no, and we need to move on.

if gruden falls thru does mean our program is doomed. just have to keep an open mind. if strong, mora, or patterson came i wouldnt object

agreed! I want Gruden but I will support any coach until they give me a reason. I supported Dooley until the MSU game.

EDIT: I meant to quote who bcarter quoted

I have friends who think that UT's inability to get Gruden (if that is the case here) is a commitment to second tier football. I don't necessarily agree, and only because of the Billy Donovan factor. As long as you are dealing with human beings, anything can happen. Naturally, I guess that doesn't just apply to the human race....but I digress.

I stated (as early as I've been involved with the Gruden thread) that if the AD was able to wrestle some control and money back, that all Vol fans would be winners. They seemingly have done that.

To say that only one coach can come in and win at any particular program is illogical, yet the number of coaches that can win big early at UT is a very small list.

Everything going on right now fits the whole middle of December timeframe. If it's not Gruden I think we name a coach by next week IMO. If we still haven't named one by then, then folks might start jumping back on the Gruden train.

THIS. I'm not jumping off. Just riding it with less seriousness for the next week and tryin to tell myself other coaches would do well here.

I think you're right.

I still contend this is eerily reminiscent of Saban & Meyer to OSU.

What was it?

If gruden really wants to be a vol then he would work with us and become the coach. But everything we have heard from gruden side is pay this pay that meet my demands. it seems to be more about tha money and control than just wanting to be the next head football coach at TENNESEE!!! Freakin get somebody in here who want to kick some ass with ut and has our back to tha end. If your to big for my university I dont want your ass anyway. theres some coaches out there i will take anyday. I saw strong gettin fired up last jumpin up and down smackin kids on the helmet and beat a good rutgers team at there house last night. if he was at UT he would recruit better players more often and get them! And i gurantee no other coach is gonna talk trash to em cuz he would probly lay somebody out. just sayin im supporting tha next coach because he wants to be here!!

Word, thanks for actually answering my question without being an idiot about it like some others. But wouldn't Summit be considered disabled in this case?

Perhaps, I don't know the legal standard, but I don't think it's relevant. She stepped down voluntarily.

Summit isn't suing anyone.

The lawsuit will either be:

1. Dismissed
2. Settled out of court (likely)
3. Go to trial many many months to years from now (lawyers can delay and drag things out).

Debby Jennings files suit against UT for 'unlawful discrimination'; says Pat Summitt was told she would not return as coach » GoVolsXtra

IF that is true then why would he play with us like this? Not an attack. Just a thought.
I'm not saying it is fact but it does make sense. I don't think he played us or anyone else for that matter. Do we have facts that he has done anything or just what the media has said? I still hope it happens. :good!:

This is why I have been so adamant about Gruden.

I actually think he was, and still is, the most realistic option on that small list.

not sure of validity but I'm going with it.

Good morning Vol fans. Just logged on and after a quick skimming of the thread is it safe to say the dream is over?
Yes...but i hate to see this thread die because always plenty of folks debating various issues. The small threads have little going on making it very boring. This thread has been more than worth my money.

Who would you put on that list?

It's not just that post. I'll use a reference that's oft been used in the Gruden thread: FOLLOW THE SMOKE!

The smoke says the Gruden deal is off and UT bent over backwards trying to make it happen.

Or a Lamonte quote

"FANTASY WORLD"

Here's a quote from the post YOU QUOTED: "Gruden not even at the top of the list"

He should have stated that early on then instead of stringing things along till it got out of hand. I don't think he just woke up and said "Naw...I don't think so". Something happened in a hurry to make it go south. I think it was either the leaks to the media or he didn't think he could work with Hart.

Maybe this is like with Saban and others. I mean according to TFP article (which I believe is accurate) he wants the job. For all I know Hart wants him as just as bad. BUT maybe JG wants to finish out his season with MNF like Saban wanted to finish out his season with the Dolphins. What may be important to fans in this process may not always align with the principals involved. This story had to be quashed. JG's feeble efforts on M&M didn't even dent the chatter so his agent had to go dramatically further to tamp down all the noise. I don't think He would be allowed to continue on ESPN if he was the coach in wating for TN and he did say on M&M that he was trying to hold on to the job he has now.

Now to be clear I'm not saying there are no issues, it's a done deal, this ain't over, sunshine over my shoulder, or anything like. I'm just saying that I could easily see this going either way in the end and personally I won't know for certain until like everyone else I tune in to the presser on that sunny or darkly clouded day as the case may be.

Hart's #1 guy is going to be someone who has strong ties to a rival university, and will come in and **** on our traditions and our program and make it unbearable to watch on saturdays. That's my take on Hart :flush: :)

u know this how??

Not over until we hire another coach.

If you are off the Gruden train, shouldn't you be commenting in the [Other Coach] threads in the forum?

Give the Grudenites the thread back.

Time to get behind whomever the hire is and be Volunteers imo.

I will try but if they trot out another "B" grade hire it will tell me they are not serious about football. Not that I won't follow them but I probably will chose to watch from home rather than attend. I feel for Hart. I have tried to think of another home run type hire and I can't think of one college or pro.

I think too it's important to note that this whole OG thing was pretty out of control... for so many boosters to be leaking so much information... it was pretty ridiculous.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Gruden/Hart pushed the shutup button and closed it all down on Friday so that the leaks stopped until they were ready to proceed.
