Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I have friends who think that UT's inability to get Gruden is a commitment to second tier football. I don't necessarily agree, and only because of the Billy Donovan factor. As long as you are dealing with human beings, anything can happen. Naturally, I guess that doesn't just apply to the human race....but I digress.

I stated (as early as I've been involved with the Gruden thread) that if the AD was able to wrestle some control and money back, that all Vol fans would be winners. They seemingly have done that.

To say that only one coach can come in and win at any particular program is illogical, yet the number of coaches that can win big early at UT is a very small list.

When you say control, will you give an example of how things are better?

Guys lets be honest. Could you really see gruden sitting next to bob doing the Jon gruden show

I follow Peyton and the Falcons but I dont think NFL even compares to college football and the excitement. That said, Gruden is an NFL rock star with National ads and fame.

agreed! I want Gruden but I will support any coach until they give me a reason. I supported Dooley until the MSU game.

Sadly a lot of the dimmer bulbs have minimized every other option.

Remove Gruden and several guys are damn good candidates. I think we can end up in a solid position.

Id rather have him over Golden or Fedora

Agree, we play in the SEC East and we have to become relevant in the east again. Fisher has consistant top 15 recruiting classes and is 3-1 against UF as a HC and has more wins against them as asst under Bowden. He has the name recognition to attract good players in the SEC. Let face it, CDD recruiting classes went downhill every year, we have got to get better quality players in here now to turn it around, and since JG is out, IMO Fisher gives us the best chance to do this.

Maybe this is like with Saban and others. I mean according to TFP article (which I believe is accurate) he wants the job. For all I know Hart wants him as just as bad. BUT maybe JG wants to finish out his season with MNF like Saban wanted to finish out his season with the Dolphins. What may be important to fans in this process may not always align with the principals involved. This story had to be quashed. JG's feeble efforts on M&M didn't even dent the chatter so his agent had to go dramatically further to tamp down all the noise. I don't think He would be allowed to continue on ESPN if he was the coach in wating for TN and he did say on M&M that he was trying to hold on to the job he has now.

Now to be clear I'm not saying there are no issues, it's a done deal, this ain't over, sunshine over my shoulder, or anything like. I'm just saying that I could easily see this going either way in the end and personally I won't know for certain until like everyone else I tune in to the presser on that sunny or darkly clouded day as the case may be.

I can agree with this. I just hope we are in a holding pattern.

So its gonna be a frenzy to see who cans get charlie effn strong..UT,ARK,AU..
Sad days boys....

Wont be a frenzy. He is not taking AU or the Ark job. If anobody who actually does their homework and thinks Strong would not be a great hire then football knowledge isnt their Strong suit. Will be a Great hire!

not sure of validity but I'm going with it.

Leonard speaks to what many former Vols I know are also saying and that is Coach Strong would be a great next head coach. He gets the player's respect and they earn his. Would have loved to have seen how Strong would have dealt with DaRick and Bray the past year.

Here's what I was told.

10mil total offer including assistants when we started at 8.

He kept asking for more stipulations of control. Nothing specific here

A number of times they thought it was finished as in he was going to accept.

After giving he what he wanted a number of times with only more demands they decided he never had any itentions to accept so they had to move on.

They didn't have time to worry about PR( that one pissed me off)

And that strong, gundy, fedora and fisher were the targets going forward. Fedora was least likely because of his one year tenure

What is the timeline associated with this info, before or after all the media battles yesterday morning? I ask because I have virtually the same statements on texts that I got mid afternoon Thursday when I got confirmation on the locker room being set up for a press conference that is expected to occur next week.

My problem is that he's a defense guy, if there's a chance we retain Chaney for the THIRD head coaching change I'm done.

Who would you put on that list?

Please note I'm not listing realistic possibilities...just giving a list based on coaching and or recruiting.

Jon Gruden
Bob Stoops
David Shaw
Nick Saban
Les Miles
Pete Carroll
Charlie Strong

My real preference after Gruden is to get Tom Jurich and Charlie Strong in a package deal, truth be told. Not because I'm dissatisfied with Hart. I just love Tom Jurich.
