Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

BBM I was told that the reason he was not coaching or pursuing coaching anywhere was he is staying in Tampa at least until the other two sons graduate. If that is true then I find it admirable.

IF that is true then why would he play with us like this? Not an attack. Just a thought.

Boomworthy imo.

I am all for discussing the search some in this thread as long as Freak lets us, but its time to just put this Gruden thing to bed. Bottom line is he said no, and we need to move on.

I'm not giving up on it, as I honestly think that Gruden is the most likely candidate who can truly turn around Tennessee in the next 5 years.

Every other name I've heard sounds like Dooley 2.0.

I like the idea of Bob Stoops, but I really don't want a guy who is going to be remembered for his legacy elsewhere.

It's been one hell of a ride! I'm going to miss this thread once it dies down. It was awesome. I think we'll find the right guy and be back on our way to the top. I'm done with this Gruden madness. Lets find a guy who wants to be here.

How do you get "Gruden didn't want us" out of that post? Is English your first language?

It's not just that post. I'll use a reference that's oft been used in the Gruden thread: FOLLOW THE SMOKE!

The smoke says the Gruden deal is off and UT bent over backwards trying to make it happen.

Or a Lamonte quote

"FANTASY WORLD"

Time to put out the OG signal for OV, Jay, Boro... OV was hinting last night it was due to waiting on payment from a job (ESPN/TB).

Until we have some other schmuck at the podium with Hart, I won't believe anything.

I think one thing that people seem to forget is this ESPN contract that is apparently 'ironclad'.

When the Grumors first started months ago, the noise was that Gruden would be named coach after his MNF duties were over and that he really wanted to finish that job. Somewhere along the way, that stance was lost and the timeline moved up.

Let's assume for a minute that Gruden really did want/need to finish out the ESPN contract.... and the media started causing a ruckus on Wednesday like we experienced.

What options do Gruden and UT have at that point? He can't say that he's accepted the job and neither can UT. They both MUST deny. As we saw on Wednesday, a little denial on M&M won't cut it - it just took the excitement to another level. I think their hands were forced and they had to put something major out there and put it to rest.

You can call this rationalizing all you want - but for those who do want to say 'it's over' - I ask you this: Assuming Gruden has to wait until after MNF is over... explain to me what they would have done differently to this point instead?

Everything going on right now fits the whole middle of December timeframe. If it's not Gruden I think we name a coach by next week IMO. If we still haven't named one by then, then folks might start jumping back on the Gruden train.

I've had my 4 season tickets for over 20 years. If we don't get Gruden and Fire Hart the way I feel right now I'm letting them go. Maybe I'll change my mind with more info but I just can't believe he can mess this up that bad.

Hart's #1 guy is going to be someone who has strong ties to a rival university, and will come in and **** on our traditions and our program and make it unbearable to watch on saturdays. That's my take on Hart :flush: :)

Your uncle is misinformed.

No one released was disabled.

The lawsuit was over discrimination and UT seemed supremely confident in how it would play out in court.

Word, thanks for actually answering my question without being an idiot about it like some others. But wouldn't Summit be considered disabled in this case?

Quote from TFP

When reached Friday afternoon, Jimmy Stanton, UT's associate athletic director for communication, told the Times Free Press the university would not discuss any details of the search.

"We're not going to talk about any dynamics of the search until it is finalized," Stanton said.
End quote

Going to be interesting questions about no Gruden at another coaches presser if this is true.

Imagine another coach at podium with Hart.

"Dave...so what happened with Gruden, the obvious best person for this job. Did you even ask him, before you settled for coach at podium?"

What other questions do you think would be asked.

Bottomline is even if they don't want to talk about it, they better. If I was the other coach at the podium I would demand it.

Leaks to media? And he hasn't met or talked to Hart, so I don't know how he would assume he couldn't work with him, unless he wanted to be sans boss and that's not how it works on the college level.

Again, that's just a weak way, imo, to look at a situation, which is to look to blame someone. Someone always has to be blamed in todays world. It can't just not work out because he didn't want to move his family and get out of the mnf booth to start chasing kids all over the country. It has to be somebody else's fault, and I find that annoying.

This the second time you have attacked one of my post. You really need to work on your reading comprehension. When did I put blame on Hart? I said he may of felt he couldn't work for him. That doesn't imply that it is Hart's fault. There are huge egos involved here and many times personalities don't mesh. Doesn't mean either are not good at what they do it simply means it may not be the best situation for both parties. And this can become evident in a phone conversation.

And if you are naive enough to think these discussions with Gruden just started in the last week well I really don't know what to think. Something happened to destroy the deal at the last min. Believe what you will, I will chose to believe what I want to as well.

I'm in the minority here, but I could get excited about hiring Fisher. RECRUITER!

Be careful what you say on this board. :) I agree, I was a big fan of his offense when he was at LSU, a ruthless power run game, play action pass, make you quit in the fourth quarter type offense. Runs an attacking 4-3 defense. Even before he got to FSU he was one of the best recruiters in the country. His recruiting ties to the state of Florida only make him even more attractive to a school like Tennessee, who MUST get top kids out of that state every year. He has a NC ring. He could bring back Eddie Gran who was a great recruiter here and bring Chavis back as D coordinator. Thats a helluva combo IMO, if we cant get Gruden. Thats my :twocents:

Just saw this on TOS by babyvol, SIAP:

I'm guessing this is true so I
Am officially coming to my senses and off the Gruden train.
Just going to keep quiet cause I can't even trust what I know from the top boosters anymore.
Sorry to those who felt misled....it definitely wasn't on purpose. I just can't believe we are dumb enough to let a Bammer ruin our program. How you don't have Gruden at top of your list is beyond me. Good luck and I'll be lurking til we get a new coach in place. A Vol fan for life.....regardless how low we fall. Get behind our new coach, whomever that is and climb back up the mountain. Go Big Orange!

Well, this puts another nail in the Gruden to Tennessee coffin.

No he is not, stop being so dramatic. It is so apparent we wanted him but he didn't want us and the reason doesn't matter.

There's simply not another AAA candidate out there that is realistic.

Anyone getting excited about Strong/Fedora/Franklin are kidding themselves.
