LOL at the last post in the Cliffs notes . . . re-citing the Lamonte report from earlier in the day and saying its over and its been dead . . .

Not trying to sensor anybody but damn clean that sh*t up and post relevant news please that Lamonte statement has been talked about incessantly people. Get over yourselves and post CURRENT updates

I really don't get the Internet sometimes.

I don't have inside sources. I take what people say on message boards with a grain of salt. I think most media outlets and reporters are full of it.

Today has only convinced me that Gruden to TN is certainly happening. Hargis's story is beyond solid, and his sources are more reputable than anyone else tied to this.

First off, you can't officially kill this thing until another coach is announced in a press conference. That's the way this game works. No one involved in the hiring process from the UT side or Gruden's side can be trusted right now. That being said, if you want to do your best to kill it, you get a quote from Dave Hart. That hasn't happened. After that, you get a quote from Jon Gruden. That hasn't happened (The ESPN article is not a quote from him, it's a culmination of all the sky is falling crap from earlier today). Most certainly, you don't have an agent kill it in a way that aggressively makes it sound like it's not happening. Jon Gruden, to his agent, is a commodity. Why would you devalue your commodity by publicly removing/vaguely insulting an interested party? You don't. The reason you make this statement is for misdirection purposes. Your agent's job is to get you hired, for as much money as he can. Why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that? You don't, unless you're merely looking to get some heat off of you, and your client, for the time being.

Secondly, his statement does NOT discredit what Hargis has been saying all day. At all. If it did anything, it enforces it, by presenting the notion that Gruden is somehow out of UT's league (meaning we'd need more money) which directly ties in to the hangup between us and Gruden's assistants' salaries.

As much as I like Hargis and value his reporting work, even his main scoop (assistant money) probably isn't the real issue here. Jon has a job already. Monday Night Football. Jon Gruden is a man of integrity. The football season isn't over, and as it's been reported already, he already definitely has an interview with RG3 coming up and a Redskins game to announce on Monday. I don't see Gruden leaving ESPN hanging like that. After all, if for some reason it doesn't work out at UT - you don't want to burn bridges.

I'm not saying that I think he'll stick around for the full cycle of MNF this year, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. More importantly, if it's approaching that deadline and we still haven't made a hire - common sense should tell us who it's going to be.

This cycle that we're witnessing of good news, bad news, GREAT NEWS, EARTH ENDING BAD NEWS, slightly good news, slightly bad news....yadda, yadda, yadda is so predictable and IMO way more telling than any of these "leaks" that are coming out right now. Follow the money that we moved - that's not to hire a no name. Follow the non-denials from Gruden and Hart. Finally, use some rationality and put the real pieces together.

Oh, and sorry for the novel.

TLDR version: Calm down, Gruden's probably coming, this is all part of the process.

A thousand thumbs up. Very nicely worded and I love a good novel.

Well obviously today was wrong, I was hopeful that the info on this part was correct. I apologize for this.

After talking to several people this afternoon, I am still not giving up. I still believe that this will get done.

Before some of you flame, and you will, go back and read I-III and read some of the details about saving the day.

I am still in my full Gruden banner and standing with you Oldvol.... I refuse to give up until it is over

Sir, I hope you are right. I really want to believe.

However, if the unthinkable occurs, this will be my new avi. Now and forever.

The boosters will get their way at the end of the day. They're tired of paying for UT's admin screw-ups. It was very clear that the $18m would be covered by boosters via donations to the University. They're not going to give Hart and Cheek $18m+ for Hart and Cheek to give them the finger and hire a guy the boosters do not want.

At the end of the day you cannot bite the hand that feeds you. If Gruden sincerely does not want the job, fine lets all move on, but if our admin is bucking the boosters and fans.. well, as yay4bray said, they will have to answer to higher powers.

It is just inconceivable that perhaps Gruden doesn't want to be coach at TN. I mean, everyone seems to assume that if we just pay enough, he will come and that Hart and Cheek are holding it up. Maybe the guy figured out that sitting in a booth 3 hours a week, being well paid, and not having to answer to ding dongs like us everytime some 17 year old fumbles is not such a bad life.

One time I was with Haslam in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Haslam goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm Bill Haslam! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'Billhaslam' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!

I have been reading posts like I am about to make for 3-4 weeks now, and usually dismiss them. I do not expect Gruden to be our coach, and at some point, we have to move on. That said, I received third hand info from a booster we all know that Gruden had a contract sent to him and was an offer from UT. For whatever reason, Gruden decided he did not want to accept it.

I know, I know. People have had sources for weeks. I have really enjoyed this forum and remember it is a "speculation" forum.

Sadly, those who missed I-III are out of luck I believe, can go back to IV though.

Look at it this way, if anything, it returned this thread back to the way it was around, say, III or IV.

If it is going to happen, It was always going to be a long road.

Well, I understand that much, but isn't Hart smarter than to go against the Haslams? They are his biggest boosters and also literally his boss from the top.

Thank you Oldvol.

If it's not Gruden (and Gruden is who I want) why not Butch Davis. Winning will make everyone forget about his past transgresions. It's working for KY and Calipari.... I just want to win again, I now know how the Candy fans felt all these years!

Butch Davis is a take. He's a bit old but I can look past that.

Could Bill be working with Peyton and Gruden directly to conduct this fiasco to make Hart look bad. No one would have any qualms about pulling the trigger to fire him then. Maybe Bill has his man, not only a HC but a new AD as well. Is this what you are talking about YFB?

Hope this is true. Could it be that Gruden wants a different AD to work with. Amazingly, most of the fan base would probably be just fine with sacrificing the current AD for the greater good of the program.

OR-
The brass at ESPN are just being @sshats about John leaving. Making him fulfill final appearance on MNF, and Gruden, being a businessman himself, wants to keep his business relationship with these guys professional and on good terms. Who wants to make enemies with colleagues. Just grasping at straws here fellas :dunno:

Thank God OV in the house! So do you have any fresher info that may make us Grudenites feel better? Kind of been a rough day for the good guys.

I think we need to abandon the Cliff's notes thread for a little while.

Let the riff raff settle down.

I still believe this will get done as well and Jon will be in UT colors before the end of the year. At this point, I think the question is who will be on that white horse......Hart or the money men?
