Guys I've basically spelled it out for you. If you can't figure it out you don't deserve to know. You can call me a troll but jay knows me and this info and he can vouch.

I dont doubt for one minute Gruden will b next coach. They havee been talking about this well before ole Gorgia boy was fired. Agent can lie and thats what he is supposed to do. He wants bst possible deal fo his client

Give me Gruden or give me death!

I really don't get the Internet sometimes.

I don't have inside sources. I take what people say on message boards with a grain of salt. I think most media outlets and reporters are full of it.

Today has only convinced me that Gruden to TN is certainly happening. Hargis's story is beyond solid, and his sources are more reputable than anyone else tied to this.

First off, you can't officially kill this thing until another coach is announced in a press conference. That's the way this game works. No one involved in the hiring process from the UT side or Gruden's side can be trusted right now. That being said, if you want to do your best to kill it, you get a quote from Dave Hart. That hasn't happened. After that, you get a quote from Jon Gruden. That hasn't happened (The ESPN article is not a quote from him, it's a culmination of all the sky is falling crap from earlier today). Most certainly, you don't have an agent kill it in a way that aggressively makes it sound like it's not happening. Jon Gruden, to his agent, is a commodity. Why would you devalue your commodity by publicly removing/vaguely insulting an interested party? You don't. The reason you make this statement is for misdirection purposes. Your agent's job is to get you hired, for as much money as he can. Why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that? You don't, unless you're merely looking to get some heat off of you, and your client, for the time being.

Secondly, his statement does NOT discredit what Hargis has been saying all day. At all. If it did anything, it enforces it, by presenting the notion that Gruden is somehow out of UT's league (meaning we'd need more money) which directly ties in to the hangup between us and Gruden's assistants' salaries.

As much as I like Hargis and value his reporting work, even his main scoop (assistant money) probably isn't the real issue here. Jon has a job already. Monday Night Football. Jon Gruden is a man of integrity. The football season isn't over, and as it's been reported already, he already definitely has an interview with RG3 coming up and a Redskins game to announce on Monday. I don't see Gruden leaving ESPN hanging like that. After all, if for some reason it doesn't work out at UT - you don't want to burn bridges.

I'm not saying that I think he'll stick around for the full cycle of MNF this year, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. More importantly, if it's approaching that deadline and we still haven't made a hire - common sense should tell us who it's going to be.

This cycle that we're witnessing of good news, bad news, GREAT NEWS, EARTH ENDING BAD NEWS, slightly good news, slightly bad news....yadda, yadda, yadda is so predictable and IMO way more telling than any of these "leaks" that are coming out right now. Follow the money that we moved - that's not to hire a no name. Follow the non-denials from Gruden and Hart. Finally, use some rationality and put the real pieces together.

Oh, and sorry for the novel.

TLDR version: Calm down, Gruden's probably coming, this is all part of the process.

Oh well, The destiny of my Vols seems to continue to erode...maybe it's time to find another pastime. I've been a Vol for some 40 years and the last 7-8 years have been torture and it doesn't look like anything is going to change anytime in the near future....it is certainaly a sad time in UT history....maybe Hart goes back to Alabama his previous home....who knows

I understand how you feel, but maybe I can provide some hope.

One of my favorite quotes from Airborne school as a young leg was "when going through hell, keep going". It was something that went through my head when stuff got really painful.

It also reminds me that nothing worthwhile is ever easy. It was like those people who couldn't endure the pain didn't deserve the wings. I say the same thing for us fans now...if we can't endure the down times, we don't deserve the good times that will ultimately come.

It is the Cuban revolutionaries, financed by the CIA with the mob funneling the money, that sat the two other boosters away from the grassy knoll that fired the threads that got Dave Hart fired.

All with the blessing of Manning, who is in a spot to become HC and who was conveniently OUT of Knoxville and in Denver when it happened.

Sigh. Gruden WAS offered a deal, and both sides are publicly jockeying. That is all this is.

So they are hiring Jon Gruden as HC and AD?

I fancy myself smart, but clearly I am missing something.

You are not adding new information by pointing out that The Governor is Hart's boss.

My thoughts exactly... Bill Haslam is Hart's Boss, but doesn't Hart know that if Jim wants something, he is a huge booster and his son is his boss? Doesn't make sense why he would risk that, unless it is bigger, like getting rid of the guy directly above Hart... maybe Cheek won't approve the pay Gruden would receive?

anybody think that Gruden is angling to be the "de facto" AD along with being HC and maybe this is what's getting Dave Hart in a pissy mood?

This... I'm thinking so. A power play on both sides to get the deal done: Hart showing resolve to move on beyond Gruden and LaMonte trying to embarrass Hart publicly to get him back on the phone. LaMonte's move, if that's what it is, has obviously been effective with the way that the boosters have been lighting up his phone today. Sounds like what Hargis is saying is true: there is an offer and its' final. LaMonte is still playing for more concessions, Hart doing interviews is him signaling that he won't budge. It'll be interesting to see what the final decision is, but it looks for all the world like posturing from both sides to get what they want.

These talks would make for a good movie, I'm guessing. Kinda like playing poker. I don't play poker much at all, but I'd like to play a few hands of poker with some of the posters here.

Me. "I've got 3 aces and I'm afix'en to draw anuther."

Anom. VN poster. "Oh no, I fold. Take my money please."

Washington's white horse?... I am guessing Black?

Who is buried in Grant's tomb? George Washington

Now what do I win??????? :eek:lol:

You could be the next AD at UT. :)

You guys have enough info to connect the dots. I'm not saying anything else. Do some legwork and stop expecting everyone to just give you handouts.

Also, it's more fun when you guys finally figure it out.

PS. It's good news not bad.

So, what I am going to choose to read into this is that Slive has strongly encouraged to kibosh everything until after the Championship game.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's what I will choose to believe.

Has the decision been made to pull the life support? Does Hart return to Alabama now that Mal Moore's retiring?
Nothing but questions and no answers......My poor Ol Vols.....

I do not know what to think my confidence was at 110% at 9am this morning and now it is at 17%. There is still hope, but I do not know what else to think. I will believe the OG's over guys like Rucker, Hyams and Hubbs anyday. Everyone knows that the media has no good sources because no one likes them. It is like telling secrets to the town gossiper...

The thing that makes this situation bad is that we could be hung out for another two weeks, never knowing when something might go down. It was nice to fixate on 11/30. Now I feel like a vagabond wandering aimlessly through a desolate wasteland of misinformation with no end in sight.
