Colin cowhart saying gruden is out, and so are vols for several years! Not sure how much he knows, but seems to be going south today

Balancing "best possible" with "realistic", I would go with (in no particular order)

Patterson (TCU)
Peterson (Boise State)
Gundy (OK State)

These may not be the easiest coaches to pursuade but I would consider them "realistic"

I would be ok with at least 2 out of those 3. Take the money you where going to throw at Gruden and throw at them. See what sticks!!! We can still get a great coach!!

Do it, do it now. Show Gruden he is not the only fish in the sea!!!

I still have heard nothing that had changed my mind. I keep getting told that it is all good nothing has changed that. I AM STILL 100% GRUDEN!

I am a "preponderance of evidence" kind of guy and do not like the way today is unfolding. By the end of the day today I am planning to take a firm stance. Logically speaking I can say I am no better then 50-50. Say what you want, the VQ article is very very bad and I read it as a quasi-press release. I expect UT to address it further today through an official release if the VQ story is spot on.

I haven't talked to anyone today but the mood among other believers at work is somber right now at best.

No school has ever acknowledged offering any candidate except the one they hired. No candidate has ever acknowledged speaking to any school but the one they work for. Link me to a press release where a school said a prospective coach wasn't interested and I'll believe otherwise.

What the Knoxville media is reporting is as close as it will get to an official statement. These guys hedge everything, now they all say it's 100% dead. Writing is on the wall.

Not to mention Mike Freeman from CBS who is citing Gruden side sources.

How can Dave Hart say in the PC that he announced Fooley was out that, money would NOT be an obstecal in hiring a new coach then; say that money is the hang up on getting the new coach. Its a load one way or the other.

Basilio - "The report about Hubbs saying that Gruden and UT never talked money is a complete lie"

"Big money people don't get together to talk about the weather"

It appears your friend was fos, tbh. Clinging to your thought that this has been done is as much lunacy as anything.

Again, we shall see. All I've seen so far is an unofficial anonymous denial on an unofficial site.

I'm not the only one that has had this information.

You're $250k check to the university clear yet?

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I'll reiterate this for those wondering...

If this deal went south, it went south in the last 24-48 hours. Make no mistake, there had been an agreement that he would become the next HC. And so this is very strange considering how sure our camp was that all was finished but the dotted line.

I am grasping at hope here, but if he did leave us at the alter, my GUESS is that he got wind of an NFL opportunity he couldn't pass up. Maybe like a San Diego or something. It stretches reason for me to think they got to this point and couldnt agree on something like staff money, which they would have already discussed.

So southern California screws us again?

People need to relax. I for one want Gruden just as bad as anyone else, and Im not saying he is going to be our coach or not. Gruden and Tennessee aren't done. If I remember correctly didn't Saban come out and say " I will not be the next coach at Alabama." Just because it is reported by people close to the program doesn't necissarly mean its done. Things can change over night as we all know. Tennessee might not have officially made him an offer but we all know they talked about a contract. Gruden may have said no thanks, and Tennessee might look around at other options and then realize that Gruden is the only answer and offer him the contract the he wanted. We just dont know anything for sure until our next coach puts his signiture on the contract. Relax, have a little faith that we will finally get things right.
GO VOLS.

nows about time when the "insiders" start forming their elaborate explanation on how it went from "a done deal" to "things fell through"

lolol. typical.

There usually a point in negotiations where a deal looks unlikely or one side says "we're done." Then, cooler heads prevail, and they get back together again and close.

Basilio and The Colonel are right. Until there is an OFFICIAL statement, with a named source and quotes, that this over...guess what folks, it ain't over.

Jon Gruden is out of the mix for the Tennessee job. Added note: Tennessee is out of the mix for the SEC championship for yrs to come.
