I'm not sure of Hyams's exact words throughout this affair, but didn't he deny any semblance of dealings between Gruden and the University? And now he's saying Gruden cancelled a meeting? If we're believing Hyams, then we've somehow moved forward in this process yet still have no chance of getting Gruden...
It's easy to see this as a smokescreen for the AD. It makes sense because he seems to just be saying anything to quash rumors instead of offering an actual consistent narrative. If that is the case, then Hyams's words take the opposite effect and show a very good chance that a Gruden deal is close.
On the other hand, the "Smokescreen" theory might only make sense to us because that's the first thing we all think when any of these media guys dismiss Grumors. Truth is, we have no idea why Hyams, Hubbs, and others are saying what they're saying. Their actions validate the early theories that local media would provide a coverup for the negotiations. But I guess there's a chance that they are actually acting on good knowledge, and a deal is falling through.
Jesus, I need a drink...
