Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

We need Gruden for the future of Tennessee Vols football. The longer we wait the less top recruits we get. I keep up with Scout all the time and everyone is getting commitments from all the 4/5 star recruits. We are not only playing at the bottom of the SEC East, but we are at the bottom in recruiting with Vandy. I have been going to Tennessee games since 1972 and I have never seen this team struggle like this. Yes, Dooley took over when the program was in shambles, but he had three years to correct this and the results are the same. I will support my team no matter what the record is, but our history is too rich with tradition and wins to just settle for 6-6 records or worse. I want to be able to wear my orange in pride again and look forward to games and know we are going to win. Please, whoever is in charge....We need a change and we need it quick!

Larry posted in another thread last night that he thinks there is less than a 25% chance Gruden comes to UT.

Larry has been very solid over the years.

With Larry making that statement and Dooley not getting the axe after the South Carolina game I am having major doubts about Gruden being the next HC at UT.

Ok here's the question.

JG is announced the week before his last MNF game.

Would you expect him to go out of his way in a setting that has nothing to do with bama to declare the physical play of a very good team to be similar to the way Bama plays??

How would this site react to such a statement???

A few points:

  1. Gruden is not the coach at UT. His job is to tow the ESPn line while cashing paychecks from them.
  2. Even if he were planning to be UT's coach next year, that statement could be a way to subtly say: "That's the style of football that you can expect from a team I coach. I just told you what I 'like' as a coach."
  3. When he becomes the UT coach and is on the recruiting trail, he could carry a handful of those fliers in and say, "Man, it was nice of Coach Saban to talk up my accomplishments as a coach. I consider it a great compliment that he thinks enough of me to hang on my every word as a coach. You know, you could go play for him. Or you could come play for the coach that he respects so much. Your choice."

Good morning fellow Grudenites........... I wonder how the mood will be in here if we struggle to put away Troy this weekend and how many more "Grudes" we will add?

GO VOLS!

Larry also said that the boosters would never pay Gruden type of money for a head coach, and doubted he would ever be seriously pursued.

Hmmm...did he say why he thought that?

I just hope it's not "Gruden or Dooley." I want someone other than Derek Dooley. Doesn't have to be Gruden or bust.

I feel like breaking someone's face when they see my orange and give a little snicker.

The 572 yards gained by the Trojans are the most against an SEC team this season and the Bulldogs entered Saturday's contest having allowed just 481 yards combined in their first two games. It was also the second most yards given up during Dan Mullen's four-year tenure as the head coach of the Bulldogs

It will not be and easy game given our defense.

I am beginning to fear that Hart will really give Dooley a chance to go 8-5 and lose out on the good candidates in the process. If you want to hire a new head coach at a place like UT, you don't wait until after a bowl game to make a decision.

Honestly though, I think the team drops one of the last four games and forces Hart's hand. I don't want it to happen, but I think it will.

Any one think CDD wins out? I thought he would get better with X's and O's with more experience, but I don't see the improvement. I just have this sick, gut feeling, he will lose at least one game.

We easily have the talent to win out. But I have the same sick feeling you have about losing at least one.

I'm not concerned. Dooley has already failed his eval.
