I know two former players that I communicate with. Both from the Peyton Manning era and both went on to have succesful Pro Bowl careers in the NFL. I have access to text them anytime I want. I have held off, up til now, on communicating with them about this coaching search because I know they all live in a bubble when it comes to VFL exclusitivity. When I am around them in normal daily situations, we converse and cut up like any other group of guys. We talk about football, hunting and whatever...but when I bring up private VFL stuff...they shut off like a light switch. It’s a very difficult bubble to penetrate.

So, I took my chances the other day, and texted both of them about Gruden. The answers i got were (BS lol) and (he didnt come in 2012, I don’t see why it would be any different now lol). One of them is VERY close to Peyton Manning, the other not so much. I honestly don’t believe either one of them because I know them and I think they like to play mind games when it comes to VFL. It’s a power trip for them to know something that we don’t, like an exclusive fraternity....as has been clearly indicated by the Tweets coming out of former players the past few days.

(Mind you, this was before the Hargis and Blackburn stories came out. )

For this reason, I was shocked when these former players started tweeting about the coaching search. I can’t see them trolling us like that because they want a homerun coach in here as badly as any of us do. They care about Tennessee Football so much and I just can’t wrap my head around them trolling us nationally like that.

There has to be validity to this...and as several have already reiterated here, Hargis would not come out with the information that he did, unless he had some solid ground to stand on. He got nailed to a cross in 2012, and I just don’t see why he would put himself in a situation to get publicly tortured again. Why would he?

I’m sure there are some trolls in this thread, but these long time members with profiles dating back 5+ years and have 10,000+ posts are obviously not trolls. They may be getting inaccurate information, but they’re not deliberately trying to deceive anyone. They bring the information they get from their sources. It’s entirely possible that their sources are wrong, which they openly acknowledge...

Just because you can’t go verify every word they say doesn’t mean they’re making it up, or that it’s incorrect. Many of the details around this coaching hire will never be made public.. so the information you get here may be all you ever get. It’s not like once Gruden is hired, Currie will write a book detailing every step of the process. We’ll get the announcement and that’s it. Everything that is being speculated now will still be speculation even after Gruden is hired. We will never know for sure how it all went down because none of us were directly involved in the process.

The trolls that you need to worry about are the ones saying I know a guy who knows a guy that overheard the Haslam brother talking at the Waffle House. They stir the pot for days then drop off the site with not a peep.

I know most everybody is done with Swain, but Stephen Hargis will be on the second hour this morning. Hopefully he received the info last night he was talking about on Finebum.

Agreed, and it goes further than that. All media (sports, news, financial, political) all are ratings whores. Without ratings (i.e., viewers/listeners) they are nothing. When they go to try and get sponsors, they show them statistics of viewership or listeners. If we (the consumer) turn it off or tune it out, they will have zero leverage and will be forced to start presenting real news and stop sensationalizing.

I don't find the kind of Head coaching experience IN COLLEGE that justifies the over-the-top excitement some folks have about this guy.
There's no question, we're going to pay millions of dollars for a top coach, so perhaps we need to look at what we are hiring if it's Gruden.

Looks like he has been the very fortunate successor to a couple of good teams already built by someone else. When he did build a good team, it looks a lot like he went out with his bosses checkbook and bought it by finding the best free agents available and paying them whatever it took to come on over.
That's not recruiting great kids all while operating within NCAA rules...that's hiring mercenaries in a league with VERY few restrictions (relative to NCAA recruiting rules).
Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

I know Peyton is a billion dollar man now, but when JG is landed, will he contact Peyton about some additional roles/coaching opportunities at UT? What will Peyton’s response be. What say you grude nation

Peyton is not going to coach. He will be an ambassador for the University (the entire University if what we have been led to believe is true)

I believe he already has. There is no way, if this is real, that these guys don't already have a plan in place for UT football. I am encouraged to hear that Fulmer and Manning are involved in this process.

It will be nothing. He won’t have a role besides show up every once in a while like he does now.
