If JG->UT was a done deal behind the scenes--or even if they were just close to a deal--do you think he'd allow the question to even be asked? Would ESPN allow it?

At the least, I think this morning's interview should have us leaning toward "there may be talks, but a deal isn't very close".

JMHO

They asked the question. So yeah, it looks like they "allowed" it.

Guys, calm down. No one expected him to announce on the Mike and Mike show that he’s coming to UT. That’s so underwhelming. He didn’t say no. He had a carefully crafted, evasive answer which is about as good as it’s going to get.

Pre

cisely.

Deep down you guys know I’m right, you just hate hearing the truth.

except our opinions on a message board are inconsequential to the coaching search in all of its reality. so while "UF gets Chip Kelly" Our AD is doing his job and looking for a coach for this football program and it has nothing to do with a message board. Your argument is stupid.

Lame. This is a place for discussion, not a home for homerisim. I'd love to be wrong, but some of you need to step out of your bubbles. Blind sheep

Your the blind sheep. We have a message from the One Beaver so you go be a fu fan an GTFO.SOON AND YOU TELL THEM TELL THEM GRUDEN IS COMING !!!!!

Interesting that he was asked specifically about the Tennessee job and then cited respect for the sitting coaches as the reason he won’t speculate - when Tennessee has already fired their coach.

Maybe he was citing all of the coordinators on staffs at other schools for his staff...

I don't take that interview good or bad really... I don't believe he has talked to NOBODY from UT about it... so there is that... just don't know how to take it

I expect to see a lot of negative media today because of that interview - but I don't think it means anything one way or the other

I didn't expect him to say he's leaving ESPN and MNF for UT if the ink hasn't dried - not sure I would have expected him to officially say he wasn't going to UT either so who knows

When you interviewing for another job you never burn the bridges with the job you have In case it falls through . thats all he is doing

Exactly, and I think that's what I'm trying to get at. Just everyone who's saying "It's over!" is just wrong. Nothing from that interview told me, "yep, we're not getting him." I think you are absolutely right. He's talking to someone, is it us? I like to think so based on all the reputable media members saying as such. But if it's not, then we as Vol fans don't need to be mad at him, we need to be pissed at all these media members sending out false information; and we need to seriously question them on it. I'm not a "fake news" guy, but when you're reporting things that may in fact turn out to not be true, then we need to ask the important question "are you all actually researching your information or just going with the first thing you hear?"

Actually there are sitting coaches at UT at the moment. Interim HC, coordinators the works. He’s respecting who is on staff now. Atleast that’s what I took from that

True, but it also felt like a canned answer that he had used many times in the past and didn’t exactly fit the question he was asked. Like he expected to get a generic question about “are you coming back to coaching?” rather than one specific job. Who knows?

83, man, I'm fairly confident you're going to be the one proven wrong in the end.

But in the meantime, why so hostile? Why the "sheep" and "bubbles" insults?

Look, what other people believe has no negative impact on what you believe. So discuss and debate, sure, but don't get upset when others don't share your viewpoint.

And when Gruden is introduced as the head coach of Tennessee football, we do expect you'll sit down and eat the plate of crow you will have so richly earned. :)

Go Vols!

Maybe but I sort of look at it as, if they didn't ask at all...it would fuel more speculation

Right. Someone yesterday said it would be “journalistic malpractice” to not ask. This sequence actually generates less fuel to the fire than not asking at all.

Sensitive to the people coaching = he doesn’t want anything coming out while this interim staff tried to finish out a season. He respects football enough and the process of preparation for opponents that he doesn’t want to interfere with that. Why wouldn’t he just say NO THANKS publicly? We know he loves UT. So why would he drag I*t* out if he had truly no intentions of coming here?

SOONER THAN LATER

A classic non-denial denial. He's just pushing the question off until he's ready to answer definitively.

The transcript:

This by no means proves he's coming to Knoxville. It also by no means proves he's not.

He just kicked the speculation can a little further down the street.

I think his comments are encouraging if not down right telling of his intentions to at least pursue being our Coach or being hired all together!
