Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

Well, Orange, you know me. You know I've been a football forum denizen these past couple of years. You probably don't know that I just discovered the Grudenite community a few days before you did, but it's true. I don't think they'd count e as one of their countrymen; I'm a newb here just like you and 83 and others.

I think their hostility to nay-sayers comes from the pain of 2012. Honestly, seriously, I think it runs that deep for most folks here. Apparently, some of them, like Boro and a fellow I don't know named DTO, really got treated harshly for supporting Gruden back then.

I drew an analogy to an isolated Pacific island tribe in another response, and the more I think about it, the better that analogy fits. The community here have not had positive experiences in the past, interacting with the wider VN.com community, and harbor some resentment. They're very protective of what they have (for good reason; it's a very nice community). They meet perceived hostility with hostility. But they don't chase you down and kill you; they just run you off their island. Happy to live and let live, as long as you let them be who they are.

And who they are is simple: Gruden fans. Believers that the best path forward for Tennessee football is with Jon Gruden at the helm.

Gotta say, I agree with them on that.

You’ve always been one of us, JP. 👊

Yeah, I understand that.

But the GTFO and STFU bits aren't really meant in a hurtful way. They seem crazy harsh to folks who just join the thread, until you research the history of the community that resides here.

And I'm serious, there are a lot of good people in this thread who I'd NEVER seen before a couple of weeks ago. People who have a lot more time on VN.com than me. It's like discovering an entire tribe on an isolated island in the middle of the Pacific, like whoa! How'd they get here.

And just like any meeting of two cultures, their ways are different than, say, the football forum. On one side, they're some of the nicest people you could possibly want to meet. Real salt of the earth folks with interesting insights and great senses of humor. On the other side, they're really quick to throw spears and shoot arrows at people who come in as "invaders," who try to force outside viewpoints on them.

So anyway, guess all I'm saying is, take a minute to get to know folks here, and I think you'll find that they don't mean to be nearly as rude to you as you thought--they are only responding to what they perceive as hostility with canned responses of their own.

One thing is for certain: the climate, the camaraderie here are far better on the whole than in the wider football forum community.

It's a culture thing. Get to know them. You'll see.

We are the football forum. If we want to be closed minded, juvenile jerks, we can ask to be put in the pub. :)

Someone posted one of Volette's tweets last night, but did anyone notice this one?

Yea I figured it out and the guy that knows her never responded back to me,he stated that her source was a former tennessee player who was contacted by gruden about joining staff, stating he was a local linebackers coach in Knoxville "Daniel Hood" ladies and gentlemen now what's my prize 😁😁

Have i already missed all the conversation about Gruden saying "Never say Never" on Mike and Mike?

I took his never say never as a reference to him keeping his ESPN job.
Since right before he said that he was talking about his job and said and as you guys know ...

“Gruden probably hung up the phone and then looked over at John Currie and said “well that should send them into a frenzy all day”

Saw this on twitter and had to laugh..

:eek:lol:

Totally off topic but is that Mountain City up past Wautaga Lake? If so, I’m from Hampton.
