Bashing UT and their fans saying because we want Gruden or the famous guys..is why we are an underachieving program. saying Gruden would be the worst hire for us. He's a tv star cant deal with kids etc...

He says to Hire the boring guy...Dan Mullen. Automatic 10 game a year winner.

Sounds like his rhetoric about us. He said we should hire Mullen yesterday

Wasn't around during 2012, was there this much noise before the deal fell through back then?

I was here but didn't follow it as closely. I remember several media outlets reporting that Gruden was close to reaching a deal with us, then it fell through. Most would tell you that was the fault of Hart. Grudens agent later came out and said that it was a "pipe dream" but that could've just been him saving face for Jon since it fell through.

Wasnt kevin Steele the one who got like 70 points run up on him while he was at clemson, and then got fired.. if so.. no thanks, he can stay where he's at..

So after all the games of showing how he's one of the best D coaches in the game that one game like 8 yrs ago is just something you cant get past?

Makes sense.

We definitely dont want to have a D like LSU had and now Auburn has. Embarrassing the num 1 team in the country is not what we are looking for. That 1 game back then, yep. Was bad.

Boro did you see my Field of Dreams reference earlier? Lol. You and DTO can fight over who’s Ray and who’s Terrance. But this thread looks like the line of cars at the end of the movie...

I check out of hotels all the time.

My company books rooms by the week. Depending on when I get the work done, I can potentially leave 3-4 days early. Definetely don't want to get charged for those.

I always check out. I don't want to be charged for not leaving by "check out time".

I've heard from a close friend that the app state D.C. Was contacted directly by jon gruden - corroborating the above story and the Swain story yesterday. Something about dale Jones's wife posting on Facebook she's excited to be coming back to Knoxville soon ..

Not a troll. I broke that von Pearson assault story 3 years ago or so and got dragged for it

ummm. his bio on APP State says he has a daughter, not a wife.

Don't get me wrong, I'm increasingly convinced it will be Gruden, but something's bothering me that I'm not hearing...

- If we're hearing all of the chatter about people Gruden is contacting, don't you think the current coaches are hearing the same thing....
- If they're hearing it, and aren't being talked to themselves, that would build resentment - enough that someone would be talking to someone and we'd be hearing names of current assistants that are PO'd
- Unless Currie threatened them with something to keep their mouth shut or told them something and made them sign a NDA
- Or this is the most incredibly professional group of assistant coaches that know keeping their mouth shut is their best option to get another job

Maybe I answered my own question, but would appreciate some insight here from anyone who knows how this works with lame duck assistants.

I have to give Basillio a little credit after bashing him last week... he was so against the possibility of Gruden coming to UT he was thinking everyone was nuts... he has 180 turned the corner... got information from various people and places and is on the gruden train now without a doubt.

Here's what you never do: pee in the bowl you're drinking from.

For the next two weeks at least, UT is the bowl all our current coaching staff are drinking from.

So sure, they may feel neglected if they hoped to be in this conversation and aren't...but they're not gonna tell the world about it until they've cashed their last UT pay check.

Most people laughed at the idea of Gruden coming to coach the Vols including the President of UT and the AD. That's why it didn't happen they didn't seriously pursue it, but there was certainly interest.

That's interesting.

I would love for that to be true! Was there confirmation that Gruden was here sometime this past weekend? And I didn't get to watch MNF last night, there were comments that he was more subdued and didn't mention next week- did he seem down or was it more not wanting to reveal too much?
