With Jon Gruden in Charlotte to call the Monday Night Football game between the Dolphins and Panthers, many Tennessee fans continue to ponder the possibility of the former Super Bowl winner becoming the coach of the Vols.
And while Gruden-to-Tennessee remains very wishful thinking and very unlikely to happen, it remains too soon to close the door entirely on it actually happening this time.

Enough sources have indicated that the Vols are kicking the tires with Gruden, and it appears he is taking a longer look at the Tennessee job than in the past, especially five years ago when Tennessee last had a coach search.
Gruden's ties to Tennessee are well known by now. He was a graduate assistant for the Vols under Johnny Majors in the late 1980s, and his wife is from East Tennessee and his son currently attends Tennessee.
His familiarity with the Vols also include his role in a 2014 recruiting camp for quarterbacks, his hosting of Tennessee's assistant coaches in recent offseasons and him attending Tennessee games here and there, whether it be the Outback Bowl romp of Northwestern on New Year's Day 2016 or the South Carolina game roughly a month ago when he was in the state to call the Titans two nights later for ESPN.
Those connections are purely just circumstantial, though.
Sources told us that Gruden has contacted three former Tennessee players who are currently college assistant coaches about the job and even potentially joining him.
One of them, sources told GoVols247's Wes Rucker, is Dale Jones, the former All-SEC linebacker who currently coaches linebackers at Appalachian State.
The other two coaches we believe Gruden reached out to are Florida State assistants Randy Sanders and Jay Graham. Sanders played quarterback at Tennessee and coached multiple positions on offense before becoming the coordinator during his 22-year stint in Knoxville. Graham starred for the Vols and his coaching resume includes a stint under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina and one season at Tennessee
However, one of them is not Tee Martin. A source close to the former Tennessee championship-winning quarterback and current USC offensive coordinator indicated to GoVols247's Grant Ramey that Gruden has not reached out to Martin.
Truly demonstrates what a great person you are. Keep up the good work Gandhi!

ESPN analyst Jon Gruden on returning to coaching: 'You never know'
People just don't want it to mean he's sticking with ESPN. They'll take it out of context and say, he said who knows, it's in his blood, and he has no guaranteed contract
Well, I dont know. Its in your blood, Gruden told Eisen. You get some people calling, maybe to see if youre interested in coaching again, and maybe if you can help recommend a couple guys. Im pretty much involved with every level of football every day of the week, so I try to help if I can.
And one of these days, who knows, Rich? One of these days, you never know. But Im just trying to hang onto the job I have. As you know, I dont have a guaranteed contract.

Greg McElroy said on ESPN radio this morning that Tennessee is a top 20 program, not top 10, for a coaching job. Used to like the guy
Until proven otherwise (through the words of the man himself) a source could provide good information or a source could be providing bad information. Tuesday appears to be a source just as close to the situation as the source close to Tee is mentioned in the article.
People have done that. They said earlier that you can't get it through to Vol Fans that Gruden isn't coming. If I were to call now, it wouldn't make a difference. I probably won't call when if he is announced. I just want them to eat a bunch of crow if he is announced.Best way to drive up ratings!!!!! Take the heat for that statement, now. One week later, two weeks later when it happens nobody will even remember.....It just stirs the fan base if true and if it isn't a statement now will be forgotten.
The can increase sales/costs of advertising. Stating he is on board does nothing for ratings...Look around...or better listen around....
