good insightful post from TOS......JG's contract is not guaranteed FWIW

"as I’ve posted before, I am friends with a guy who announces SEC games for ESPN. He’s not a Tennessee fan, but obviously is closer to some of this than most folks. I have not checked in with him until tonight.

He had no idea on Gruden or anyone else, but did say the ESPN financial troubles are legit as everyone has seen in the news and the days of Gruden making $6mil+ are probably over. If ESPN did drop MNF, which is fairly likely, Gruden could easily get another gig at another network, but not anywhere near $6mil.

If Gruden wants to keep making $6-7mil, he’ll have to return to coaching. He may opt to make $2mil on Fox, who knows, but the financial situation is in fact much different today vs in the last few years. Not just 2012, but even last year when several decent NFL jobs were open.

Not groundbreaking, but more info on the situation being completely different than past Grumors."

So from what I have read Gruden is worth about $22.5 million. If the rumors are true about the $10m/year then in just a couple of years he would double his net worth. Also found it interesting that his highest coaching salary was $4 million a year. Crazy to think that he could double that by coming here. Money isn't everything, but guess what is...family and it just so happens that he has that in Knoxville :)

Is it byproduct or the prize?

Maybe both. Piece of a much larger deal. It’s in my mind that it’s either:

Gruden wants it. It’s been in the works. Ergen, Haslam, Peyton, Beaver, who the F ever, has been planning for this. Gruden is completely serious this time because of all the things said here about it. Maybe waiting on this to end on Gruden’s side. Soon.

Or-This is one big mind ****. A team of professional from colleges get together and buy companies or stock or something- and are bidding against or competing with other schools. They inject Gruden to F us up. So we don’t get anyone good.

Polar opposites at this point. Like bipolar.

The longer this goes on the less certain I feel.

I'm waiting to the end of this crappy game just to make sure he doesn't announce tonight!

Soon!

Highly doubt he would reveal it like that but if he were to do so, I would think he would wait until after the games completion, in order to prevent from taking away from either team on MNF.

What I've heard is that Gruden is being held up at the signing stage by his desire to bring in Rod Wilkes for a year to act as the defensive line while he restocks the roster.

Already leery of Gruden's offensive mental capacity and scary sideline demeanor, conference officials feel that Rod Wilkes would be too much of an unfair advantage to restore his last year of eligibility.
