1. Currie said we will not be using a search firm. That's big. Both Currie AND UT have solid track records of using firms.
2. To the rational thinker, it's not a stretch to say that he could already have his guy.
3. If he already has his guy, you can bet it's not a current sitting college coach.

He has his man. Hence no search firm. That man is chucky G

But if you are trying to convince an administration to more than double the outlay on coaches' salaries, then showing fan excitement and the potential for revenue generation would be helpful.

It also might be helpful to show that excitement to Gruden to get his commitment.

Well, true. But not sure a self-selected community of 20,000 or so is a very accurate way of testing the waters of the bigger Volunteer Nation, which measures in the millions and pays FAR less attention to the machinations of the program than we do.

Hiring one of the polling firms to do a representative sample survey would surely be far more statistically valid, and reliable.

But then, maybe so. Who knows?

I am only guessing. I have no idea.

It's more that I'm surprised to learn I haven't been making my jokes in here.

You might have. But probably from your nerdy side that the rest of us didn't get.

"What do you call an educated tube?"

"A graduated cylinder!"

I think he is, but honestly I don't think that is a problem.

It wouldn't serve his purpose if there was any other coach at the end of the charade. I think, if anything, he has been the stalking horse for the AD (and Currie).

He's vetted Gruden to all parties, demonstrated the wild success that such a hire would bring, and now they have verifiable data to bring to the AD (and the money counters).

🤔 That would explain the grin today, all the people jumping in here on this thread, the open ended questions, Trey saying Gruden has been using Haslam's plane (no infighting), and this feeling like a research project.

So, maybe not done yet? Like they are still trying to force it? I’m confused now.

The Beav confirmed to me a while ago that the "doneness" of the deal was related to a game theory approach. The deal that was being assembled was too good to say no to, and thus the AD would have to accept. (Like offering someone the choice between $20 and a kick in the nuts.)

Now, the ultimate variable has always been Gruden himself, however I'd like to believe his interest was fully vetted prior to too much effort being expended. Something was said by a few people about ten days or so to that effect.

So, is it done (as in ink dry), maybe not. But is it inevitable, perhaps.
