Official Jon Gruden thread 32.

Ok here is how I see it. You won’t know until you know, but the boosters are not stupid and will not throw money around without having someone worth throwing it at. TN has approved a very expensive remodel and even did it faster than planned. They have a worked out plan before they agree to that. Period. Everyone in here had sources before Butch was out saying Gruden is coming. Now that the firing has been announced a few people have had sources that say Gruden passed. Don’t let that smoke keep you from seeing the finish line.

This is Jon Gruden folks. It’s a really safe bet, his contract with ESPN contains a clause allowing him to leave at any time if he accepts a coaching position. Count on it. It’s a done deal. G-R-U-D-E-N!

OK in his absence I'll use this one, if it's OK with y'all:

That doesn't work for me because PW is the list maker. Sorry. I'm pretty sure he will let you know if he needs an assistant.

An observation or three:

Eschewing a search committee or search firm is a pretty bold move. Inserting others into the process gives an AD a degree of shielding. Without one, it's 100% Currie's decision.

So he's clearly a very confident person. That's the first observation.

But he also has to believe he can come up with a new coach the community will applaud. Because, self-confident or not, his destiny is attached at the hip to this hire and that's a big rock in the ruck sack.

So he's got at least one big name already in his pocket. Bigger than Mullen, I'd say, bigger than Frost. If not JG, at least a Patterson level option. Proven winner who has already said he wants to come to Tennessee.

And that's comforting to know. Not as comforting as Currie walking into a press conference tomorrow to say the words Jon F'ing Gruden, but still comforting.

One more thing on this line of thought...

By not bringing in a search firm, the information can be controlled that much more. Currie can limit the exposure of who knows what without the potential leaks from an outside firm.

I do and it’s a little crazy. Grown men setting themselves up for colossal disappointment.

You should be happy to know there are quite a few women joining you in these threads.

But they are full Grude, so you'd certainly be like the weird girl that never got invited to sleepovers and whatnot.

It’s not gonna happen. But hey if it makes you feel better just keep on, keeping on. I’ll make sure to check back in on this thread once the head coach at Tennessee has been named. Hint for you........it won’t be a Gruden.

Ok. 😒 Now, head back over to the Mullen thread and tell everyone how you really gave us the business. 👍🏼

And do not act like there are not logical reasons he might want to coach here... His son here graduating soon, his wife and him love Tn with history here.

And timing could have been wrong in previous attempts.

Also just because a coach was in NFL, does not mean they would not leave it... Harbaugh for example.

Is there anyone here that can detail what went down to bring Majors back to UT as coach? I see a parallel with Gruden because I think it is critical that we hire someone with some true orange blooded ties.

Majors became engaged again as soon as Fulmer was fired. That was what Majors was waiting for.

I think the fact Currie isn't using a search firm is the most telling part of the conference today. I did a little digging to see if he has a history of performing these searches on his own. We know UT has along history of using search firms for all of their big hires.

As it happens, Currie used a search for the men's basketball hire at KState.

So UT has a history of search firms, Currie has a history of search firms, and now they choose to bypass that option?

They already have their man.

Solid work.

Preacher with a strong Metallica showing. Nice work.

as long as we keep butch locked up in hangar 18, and announce gruden soon, i won't spend seasons in the abyss where it's raining blood. i won't feel like i've been cast into the lungs of hell in my darkest hour. i won't be going off the rails on a crazytrain. don't you understand that nothing else matters? that wherever i may roam, i bleed orange? i know it's sad but true, and i'm not holier than thou, but butch has drawn the shortest straw. one more game of butch will drive me to the frayed ends of sanity. i just hope gruden will hurry up, come on, jump in the fire, no remorse, seek and destroy, cause getting info from these insiders is like anesthesia pulling teeth.

i'm ready for UT to be back. i'm ready to ride the lightening, fight fire with fire, hit the lights, take no prisoners, be UF's harvester of sorrow, read bama their last rites.

SEC, these boots are made for walking. peace sells, but who's buying? these aren't my last words. and if we don't get gruden, i'll wake up dead.

nope, i ain't been saved all my life.
that was a looooong time ago.

for the record, that was all for some of you guys fun.
got your jollies.
you got it.

their's so much music in my head from my youth. it'll never come out. i don't think about it tho, until something trigger it. somebody said something about gruden being announced to a song, and .... well ... my mind went crazy.

sorry.
time to get it back in line before i freak people out.
