Every time the head coaching vacancy comes up in Knoxville, Jon Gruden's name comes up because you guys get stars in your eyes.

Gruden then floats the idea of leaving to ESPN, using it as a way to get them to give him more money to keep broadcasting. IT'S HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE TIME HIS NAME COMES UP AS A COACHING REPLACEMENT AT TENNESSEE.

Tennessee needs a head coach who recruits well, with a proven winning record and genuinely loves the Big Orange and its fans. Jon Gruden has none of those abilities or capabilities. He ain't even a good NFL commentator.

I'm sick and tired of hearing Jon Gruden's name come up every time there's a vacancy. He needs to stay where he is, and we need to get us a great coach. Gruden is not. Dude... you're not in the running. Your number ain't coming up. I will personally travel the 100 miles to Knoxville myself and lobby AGAINST you if your name comes up, and I hope you are there visiting when I do.

Quit drinking the Gruden Koolaid, Vol fans. It ain't got no sugar in it.

I'd rather have Peyton Manning. Heck, I'd rather have Phil Fulmer back, before Jon Gruden. My mother would be a better choice.... at least, she has the dignity and respect to not use the offer to get more money out of her current employer.

also regarding the no search firm. the guy on WATE said no search firm makes it seem like they have already had backchannel possibly to someone else represented by Sexton? hope that’s false but does anyone know who else he represents?

Trey Wallace reported we had been in contact with Gruden, Mullen, and Gundy. Sexton represents Mullen.

The one thing I keep thinking about is Gruden had to have agreed to this plan BEFORE it was actually implemented. If that is true.....SOON!!!

Me too man. Pisses me off seeing all of these people (not here..FB and other sites) act like we are freaking idiots even bringing up Jon Gruden’s name for head coach at UT. Saying “not coming” and “your dilusional” etc.... We may or may not get him, but there was definitely mutual interest in 2012, so what makes it’s so outrageous for some to think it could be possible now?? Like did they all talk with Gruden personally and he told them he wasn’t coming? Thank gosh for this thread where there’s optimism!! Anyway I’m a believer and will be STOKED when the announcement comes!! Even Chuck Norris doesn’t have jack on the GRUDE!!!

Now that there is officially an opening Gruden will have to make a statement correct? And I️ believe multiple insiders both here and on TOS have said “48 hours”

Anonymous Submission: Sexton has been pushing Mullen HARD. As of Friday he believed Mullen was NOT getting the job and the feeling was that Gruden would accept but not for sure. Should have a decision on Gruden one way or the other this week

He won a Super Bowl didn’t he?

My response: So Tony Dungy couldn’t win with his own players?
