Not likely. Whether you believe we can actually land Gruden or not is irrelevant. He is most certainly a candidate and not something to be dismissed that easily.

If he's a guy you pursued and he said no, you still wouldn't treat it as a joke.

Then why not make a statement about fans having realistic expectations or just shoot down Gruden altogether? Seems he is getting fans hopes up with the way he answered questions.

If I remember right beav went into specific detail saying if the AD tried to make it look like he spear headed this was responsible for the hire he was full of sh***. Now it may be just me but from what I took from the presser he had the spear in his hand. No way he gets up there and acts like this is on him with no search firm help unless he has "pocket aces" to try make himself look good.

He also made it clear that the boosters were ok with Currie looking like the hero. They just wanted to get it done.

I had the same thought. Perhaps he thought it wasn’t worth his time to answer. I hope not.

At the same time, I think that he shoots it down immediately if there wasn't something to it. I hope it's Gruden, but either way I think he's got something lined up.

Hopefully the stalking horse isn't a reference to having everyone looking at Gruden while something else is going on. Currie's grin could have been to the fact that everyone has bought in. This is just me playing devil's advocate and working the other side of the coin.

I normally don’t discuss my problems on a message board and this is probably not the time or the place..I’m taking the rest of the evening off due to an illness..Been under the weather the last few days but today is the worst..In 2015, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and seem to be having a flare-up which is very frustrating and painful..Anyways, may I ask a favor of you all and just keep me in your prayers..Should be on tomorrow sometime to check in..

ANYONE other than Gruden being hired will be a catastrophic letdown. And I am not optimistic at all about CG coming to KTown, so am afraid our 20 years without a HC worth his salt will continue.

If Gruden had turned us down, that was curries chance to fess up and tell us all to move on. He didn't.

Having been involved in C-Suite hiring at Fortune 50 companies there are only 2 reasons you don’t hire a search firm:

1. You are so confident in your own networking ability that you feel a search firm is a waste of money.
2. You have at least 1 candidate already committed that you are excited about.

Lots of things can go wrong with #1 - worst case your efforts fail and you waste a lot of time and end up having to hire a search firm. That risk would be too great in UT’s current situation.

Which leaves us with #2. I firmly believe that’s where we are. Don’t know who it is, but I do believe Currie already has at least 1 big fish on the hook.

And having placed many C level executives as a partner in a search firm , I totally agree with this 😄 “Preparedness for transition is my responsibility “ was key pull quote. In other words don’t be surprised when this doesn’t take too long
