The Albert Haynesworth tweet also intrigued me. I don't put massive stock in what he tweets or anything, but he is a VFL that talks to other VFLs and you'd have to be dumb to think some of them don't have info. He's probably heard it from a good source in his circle.

Don't get hung up on the failure part. It can also signify something necessary to be successful.

The namesake comes from hunters who realized that fowl would avoid or run from humans, but gave little care for other animals. So, you hide behind your horse (or an animal shape) until the prey is close enough to shoot. Like the original duck blind.

In this case, he changed his picture to a whale hunter with a harpoon. Perhaps the Stalking horse was applied in terms of hunting the White Whale (not that I particularly enjoy the idea of harpooning the Grude-man).

The whole thing is crazy, you know? Like a huge amount of effort went into this. Why it would take so much, I don’t understand. On Gruden’s part, yes. But why UT would oppose is baffling.

One thing that stands out to me...we've heard for weeks that they money is there for a big money hire. Even Currie alluded to this in his press conference when asked. Mullen makes about what Butch did and Frost makes like 2.3 million. What candidate could be considered a big money hire besides Gruden?...SOON!

I would like to think that someone from the University reached out to him and told him to chill with the Twitter rage and filled him in on what was/is going on. Especially with the tweet direct toward Haslam thanking him for doing what was needed to make Tennessee better.

Who knows though.

I think the target of the "@" will see it in notifications even if they are not following the account.

Negative, per twitter FAQ (can test if you like):

About replies sent from accounts with protected Tweets

By protecting your Tweets (making them private), you're telling us that you don't want anyone to see any of your Tweets unless you've accepted their follow request. If your Tweets are protected and you send a reply or mention, only those you've approved to view your Tweets will ever be able to see them. If you want to send Tweets such as mentions or replies to people who are not following you, unprotect your Tweets to make them public.

So, I think there are a few things in your argument I disagree with.

(1) I don't think " VolNation" was being tested, as much as all of VOL NATION. This site is the free site with the greatest accessibility, and thus ease of tracking actual interest.

(2) The purpose of testing the waters was to add value to the proposal. In a vacuum, offering a deal is a reasonable thing, but with the added data from this type of social experiment you can solidify the case.

(3) To a point you made later - using a data polling service would accomplish the opposite result. The purpose of the stalking horse is that no one is aware. If the pollsters were calling people in Knoxville asking about head coaches, it would immediately give everything away.

I think the analysis is correct, as far as Beav is concerned. He is assuredly the Stalker Horse. However, I'm not sure who actually sent him. It's convenient to say Ergen, but it could be just about anyone.

He did say, "These people don't miss." This type of maneuver could be part of that. People who don't ever miss in big transactions have contingencies out the wazoo. This popular rabble-rousing may be part of those contingencies.

SFD, M of MBB?

The Pete Thamel article is laughable. Said UT was second tier compared to Florida. Said Mullen, Frost, Kelly would never consider UT because they have better options or better current positions. Claimed UT would be able to swing a Norvell, Whittingham, Brohm, Schiano, type of hire. Basically the whole article was a UF love fest and said the Gruden stuff was journalistic negligence. GTFO Pete.

Gotcha...those tweets must be for our consumption then unless the guy happens to be a follower.

So been away since the Currie presser... What’s the pulse? Everybody jumping off the Grudengine?

Why are people settling for less than a homerun hire? I.E., Mullen, Frost, Campbell, Fuente, Brohm, Norvell, etc.

I absolutely think he would be. If we accept the narrative that has been presented, everything is going according to plan.

I don't see anything being forced.

The only hiccup appeared to be BK's concussion. Something was definitely happening and then was reversed for some reason.

Thank you. Didn’t understand Beav tweet about him.

All of this Mullin and/or other "sitting coach" talk is garbage imo.. In the presser, it sure sounded to me that Currie wanted to have his guy announced before the early signing period. I'm still sticking with Gruden

Someone on twitter (don't remember where i saw it) said Juan Jennings posted something on instagram about better to have no coach than a fake coach. Anyone have instagram that can check.
