Is it starting to leak?

I'm hopeful, but I really have no idea where the information is coming from. Considering he's VFL AND a high school coach in TN, I would expect him to have myriad sources, and he didn't tell my son more than "Gruden will be announced Saturday."

It seems hopeful because I can't imagine him saying something to a student which would get him a rep as either a BSer or not connected.

It's only embarrassing if it's allowed to continue and we don't get Gruden and that will not be on the fans but the AD and Gruden. I don't believe either are foolish enough to let it play out that way. That's what I'm hanging my hat on and why I'm 100% Gruden. If I'm wrong, TN will be in a very dangerous place.

I agree in principle, but if it's not Gruden, at least get the next best option(s). If for nothing else, it will indicate UT is committed to swinging for the fences.

My first contacts:

-Patterson
-Peterson
-Shaw

Not no, but hell no:

-Mullen
-Norvell
-Kiffin
-Schiano
-Campbell
-Frost

I've said it before, UT is not the place for OTJ training.

Chris Peterson, imo, would actually be a grand slam. Not a bigger name per se, but as close to a sure thing as you can get. He’d have the Vols contending for a playoff spot year in and year out.

Tennessee needs the RIGHT coach. the RIGHT fit.

the importance of this hire cannot be over-emphasized.

I have answered it many times, and honestly my opinion shouldn't matter to anyone else.

Patterson
Peterson
Shaw
Harbaugh
Miles
Stoops
Kelly
Kiffin
Venables

There are others that would fit my personal criteria.

I just ask that we move the needle, make it apparent we are trying to go big. I don't want someone with short-term experience or success in a non-P5 program. We have tried that route. I prefer SEC experience, but sustained P5/ NFL success as a coordinator or HC should be a minimum.

I appreciate you answering again. I'm honestly shocked to see Miles and Kiffin on there, or I'd be totally on board with the entire list. Surprised in the sense that you'd be okay with those two guys, but not someone like Dan Mullen or James Franklin; both guys with SEC experience and moderate success relative to their situation.

Miles, I sorta get, but wouldn't be the kind of hire to generate a ton of buzz nationally or within the program and fanbase. Why has no one else hired the guy, and why is his name not mentioned prominently with these open jobs?

And Kiffin, the guy has left every HC job he's ever had in a bigger mess than he found it. His unscrupulous moral compass aside, the guy is a brilliant offensive mind, but he has yet to prove he can handle the big stage as a HC.

In any case, thanks for letting me know where your mind is in terms of good/bad hires. We don't agree 100%, but that's to be expected. Few of us ever will. Thanks.

I agree with every name on that list except for Les Miles. I always felt, even winning he was winning, that he more lucky than good.

That type of SEC success is not sustained by accident. Just my opinion, but I think he'd go to the front of the class in the East, and would compete with whoever ends up at Florida on a yearly basis. That's where we have to start.

Slow drip hopefully

Kiffin would be bottom of the barrel, desperation move for me.

The biggest thing I see that would be negative about Petersen is he is at home where he is. He grew up watching Washington football. Would be a tough sell to get him to leave there I think. But dang the guy can coach.

This is actually something that hurts my belief in this happening

ok, playing along..he said to just to let them die. no reason why...could be they're dead because he's coming and it's not a rumor anymore....or.... they need to die because it's over and he's not coming.

doors left open every turn.............................................. depending on the perspective you choose to use.....

The only thing in anyone else's favor with Peterson is the lack of attention Washington gets. He's talked about how hard it is to get media coverage when your team is in the Pacific Northwest. Nobody watches those late games.

If he surrounded himself with a stellar staff, I could agree.

I said this before, and I will say it again about other coaches....

Here is my problem. And it is with most names brought up except for a few.

I want someone that is excited to be here, wants to be here, and is their dream job. I don't want them to bolt when their dream job comes open. I don't want them to leave when things get tough. I want them to have the passion we do as fans, and want to be here because this is the best place to coach in football.

I want someone who wants to be here and feels lucky to be here. I want the fuel and passion. That's what makes Tennessee a wrecking force.

So, with that said, I want someone with some TN ties somehow or someone who grew up loving Majors or battle saying to themselves, I want to coach there before I die. That's what I want, and that's what us fans want.

I want the old TN back that everyone feared and we all loved.
