ok, that may change things, a little....would have to be awfully short list, and it's still risky at that. but if you're talking a couple guys...sure, it's possible.

Let em go. He has earned the right to make that decision, and it's a lifetime decision for sure.

In a totally unrelated story: Seeing Bob Johnson 67 (AA center) honored as the Vol Great for the game last Saturday reminded me of the story of when he was being recruited. I believe he is from Sparta and he told his Dad he was thinking of going to Ga Tech. His Dad asked him where he was thinking about living when he got out of college. Bob said, he thought he would come back home. To which his Dad responded, "reckon how many of those Ga Tech folks live around here?"

We are now OVER a WEEK into a coaching search.. after several weeks of “it’s not if, it’s when” and you mean to tell me the ONLY names OTHER than the savior of UT football to be floated are: Dan Mullen, Jimbo Fisher, and now just this morning Peterson. So we have a handful of Sexton, and an outlier.. $300+ million renovations coming, Forbes 2nd wealthiest college football program at approx $100 million.. John Currie, first SEC AD job, first time hiring a coach, opts for no search firm, then tells recruits he’ll have a coach in place by 12/10.. quite the short timeline for a hire of this professional, personal, & monetary magnitude.. rumors of mid-search Bahamas trips, and the fact that no REAL media outlet has OFFICIALLY reported UT has checked much of anyone out... only 1 name out there y’all, and that guy has been live over 3 occasions and asked directly about the job... unlike 12’ he’s yet to directly deny.. even when impromptu last week in SEA.. icing on top is the national media attention.. this would be deafening for Currie if Gruden was a lock... JC is no dumby, one moment he’s getting harassed in the concourse, the next you think he’ll march out Mike Norvell knowing the frenzy that’s taking place... not a chance y’all—> J O N G R U D E N

i don't know anything. just my best guess based on the information available to me.

and i've posted in this thread earlier, if he is signed, and it is going to happen, then the reason it most likely hasn't been announced is because of Gruden's distaste for interrupting a current coach's job. he's said on multiple occasions that it's not fair for him to comment on guys that still have a job, or speculate on candidates when there's a guy still employed. i'd imagine that being the case, he wouldn't want anything announced until after the season.

I posted last night and will repeat, it would be stupid to bring in top recruits this weekend if we don't have a new HC. Imagine what the atmosphere would be like with coaches coaching their last game at UT--a real downer. The kids would get nothing positive from the coaches. They would sense negativity. I don't think for a second that Currie could sell the kids on coming to UT if he can't tell them who they would be playing for. However, if he tells them Jon Gruden will be your coach for the next 4 years and he'll be visiting you soon--BOOM! So, it's either Gruden or Currie is an idiot.

There is definitely something to that. It's also the reason they had hoped to keep Butch until the end. That plan turned to doo-doo for a couple of reasons, and they had to back up and punt. So now, we wait.

Another analogy would be at closing time in a bar, and after all the hot girls have turned you down, you are faced with the choice of the bearded lady you know ain't going to get any prettier and the slightly nerdy chick that could be hot if she pulled off her glasses and let her hair down.
