Sean McDonough saying he "doesn't think Gruden is coming to to Tennessee" really doesn't hit me like a definitive no go. He says later "I could be totally wrong". So right there you know the guys aren't good friends at all...or Gruden would have confided in him from the outset.
Another thing that struck me is Gruden specifically asking the Seattle radio folks not to ask him about the UT job. Why not? Why not squash the rumors and get it over with...especially if...as McDonough says...he "cares (so much) about the University"?
At this point if Gruden says no...or we find out he was never interested in the first place...then I am definitely on the Grude hate train from here on out and sure as he!! won't be back in 3-5 years to go through this all over again. If he is IN as our coach...then I will buy a 'Gruden #1' jersey. But at this point he has allowed this to go on far too long if he's not interested.
If it's Frost I'm done. Butch was more qualified than Frost.
Good thing it's not Frost.
Well, my sources have been a dry well for about two weeks. I'm talking ZERO information. There wasn't much coming anyway, but I could at least get a "it isn't Gruden" out of them.
But, I got an interesting text from my son a few minutes ago. A coach at his high school played at UT in the 90s, and he remains well connected at various levels. This morning he told my son "Gruden is going to be announced on Saturday."
I have no idea where exactly this information is coming from, so it's simply FWIW.
