That is, again, a lot of conjecture. We’ll see I guess. I want Gruden as much as the next guy and there may be reasons it makes sense he would be coming here. But silence certainly isn’t unique to this situation.

Good morning to you too.

It is if your employed and owed a lot of money

For Gruden to say anything other than indirect would raise flags at ESPN. He's playing it the right way whether we want to hear it or not

I'd like to know either way honestly

There's only two ways this ends...

Currie and Gruden are instant heros or they'll be hated forever. A lot of the reason Peyton will never be a coach at UT

Could not agree more, and that's exactly why one or both need to come out and say "no it isn't Gruden." Otherwise just too many people will be upset if that's not the man walking up to the podium. I mean look at the reaction people give when we say Mullen is being targeted. The man is a successful, safe, experienced, and winning coach, yet some are so adamant about Gruden they refuse to accept anyone else that's remotely an excellent hire. I'm all Gruden, but I'm not going to be the least upset if Mullen is the hire, but I'm also not insane.

If it's not a good coach I won't be happy but I won't let them control whether or not I go somewhere I love and enjoy.

God I gotta stop coming straight in here right as I wake up. But for those wondering about last night on MNF....not a word. In fact, not a word all year long which by this time in 2012 was very different. I was here then too BTW. And this can only be seen as strange at worst. Done at best. Add it up. Currie just smiles when asked about Gruden at presser. Gruden has cryptic messages related to Rocky Top and you never say never. There has already been a pitch in Tampa, followed by a confirmed meeting in the 3rd quarter against LSU involving all major players. No one else has even been interviewed as far as we have been told. So you add it up.

I don’t know if he did or not in 2012. I do know he isn’t denying ANY job right now. Currie isn’t saying anything about ANY candidate right now. If it is “telling” then it is “telling” for every candidate and every job out there. The quiteness from both sides isn’t unique at all.

It is called expectation management, RJD. And its absence can be very telling indeed.

Put yourself in John Currie's shoes. You are in the middle of making the most important decision of your tenure as AD. Decades from now, your reputation will be defined by what choice you made here.

You know that. You also know that a significant portion of the fan base are really, really--no, I mean really--excited at the possibility of Jon Gruden.

Each day is an opportunity to manage those expectations. To take the sting away now, let the disappointment dissipate, so that it's not a sudden and potentially violent tidal wave on the day you announce.

Managing expectations isn't just a coping mechanism for the AD's personal benefit, though. It is also the right thing to do for the next coach. If he's not Gruden, you gotta manage those expectations early, or you're setting him up for failure with the fan base from Day 1. It is also the right thing to do for Jon Gruden and his family, if he's not coming. Including a son who is a UT student, on campus now.

...

So yeah...the lack of comment from Currie is significant. I agree with you that Gruden's silence can not be read in any particular way, but the UT administration's silence is telling.

p.s. Good morning, everyone. :hi:

Currie said he would have nothing to say until he was ready to announce the new coach.
He is also honoring Grudens wishes to not announce until the season is over for TN's coaches and his asst coaches.
None of us like it but we need to let it play out.

If this is true there will be a bunch of badasses on the Hill

Look at the staff rumored of course:

HC: Gruden
OC: Briles, Martin
RB: Gran, CRG
DC: Steele
LB: D. Jones
DB: T Fair
QBC: C Clausen

** I wasn't sure about OC or RB anymore since they come and go**

I did happen to notice that Bubba' s last post about seeing us for the next coaching search was on Wed Nov 15 at 6:55 p.m. the rumor floating around states that the contract was signed on Wed Nov 15. Coincidence? I think not. I'm still rolling full speed ahead with Beav and Bubba...
