My thoughts?

Fairly simple, he's interested enough to be mulling over the final contract and/or already committed. Remember, we keep hearing an MOU was signed. HearForGrumors and CWV (and the other lawyer types that deal in that area that I might have missed) can shed better information on how many times someone backs out after negotiations have gone that far, but I'd dare say the percentage isn't high at all. Because when two parties agree in principle on something and the details just need to get ironed out, the details tend to get ironed out. One side knows how bad the other wants it and are playing the process (Beaver alluded to this I believe) to get additional concessions and the other side eventually relents or counter-proposes in the middle where the other party really wants to be.

An analogy would be those of us .mil folks that have been deployed to the Middle East and seeing the off base vendors with the fake Rolex watches. The vendors start at a price of $100 and maybe they get it. But generally? They are willing to settle for about $20 or so. But they always start at the ridiculous levels because of the PT Barnum rule.

Gruden very likely has a smart agent. He'll start at the ridiculous level, but be willing to settle for something a little less. Currie knows this and is willing to give up a little on that front as well to meet in the middle where he knows it will end up. But you never start by giving the mouse a cookie. You haggle, negotiate, propose, claim unreasonableness, maybe even walk away for a short while, come back and give in slightly, let the other side give in a little and eventually end up where they wanted and you are willing to give.

Something our politicians in Washington have forgotten how to do. (and that's a non-political statement) But anyway...

Gruden hasn't flat turned us down nor shot it down yet because either the process is so far along the minor details are going to be ironed out or are so petty they won't affect the overall outcome. And the outcome?

He's agreed in principle to be the next coach at UT. He knows it, Currie knows it, Peyton and Fulmer know it (notice how suspiciously quiet those two are?), the money men know it and they know the deal will get settled if it hasn't already.
Thanks! Appreciate your thoughts.

Thank You for the experience Atlanta Vol. Me and the little one had a blast. Sat by a Navy Vet and his wife. My little girl had a blast, high fiving and cheering for her Vols. Thank you again, for providing us the opportunity to experience that together.

So happy it worked out! Hope you got some good pics and time with the daughter.

Watching this thread when I can I must admit can be pretty entertaining. Trying to catch up on a flight as we speak. Couple of bullet points to keep some folks that have really bad information in check here...and that’s really all I can do at this point again have to protect the university, the process, and my relationship with it. Everyone will know when we have a new hire...

1. Gruden was not at Calhouns yesterday.
2. Currie primarily flies commercial on UT business..guy is a hustler and should be respected for that.
3. No need to ever track wheels up planes those are not being used for UT business
4. The vast majority of meetings are NOT happening in any location that would “make sense” (Ie, Knoxville etc)
5. Great lengths have been gone into keeping the tail numbers etc that are being used different from ones that have really ever been posted in here before. Take into account my company alone has 5 planes now that may or may not be used all of which none of those tails are known...so imagine how many others are out there. Additionally usually the registration of said planes are done with essentially phony LLC’s in states other than where the planes are used or kept that have no connection to anything that could ever get traced back to an individual.
6. There is a sense of urgency to get this done as quickly as possible but you can’t force someone’s hand purely with $$$. If it were that easy we would have someone already.

I hope everyone who was able to go to game yesterday enjoyed the experience as much as possible. I was bummed that the weather sucked....first time in box for entire game for me in a long time.

I am around a bit today relaxing preparing to turn and burn for the holiday week...I wish each and everyone of you and your families a wonderful thanksgiving holiday. Take time to hug your wife, kids, and parents if they are still around. That’s what its all about.

Thanks and Thanks for doing so much for vets and families.

Wearing UT shirt down here at breakfast in FL . 2 people from TN just came up and asked about Tennessee. I just said waiting on Gruden and the fact that we have the worst team I have ever seen at UT.

#6 is interesting

Interesting and worrisome, it was said previously that Gruden was our guy and that he was all but wrapped up, this reads like that is not the case and that we don’t have “somebody” which could be anybody, yet!

More disappointment...hope it’s Gruden but not sure why we can’t even get straight answers from our insiders. Not sure there is any harm in Atlanta Vol speaking frankly and openly?

Sounds like no info til after thanksgiving as well...

Thanks for the scoop. One question, you had mentioned previously that your presence here, or lack thereof would be a signal of sorts. All I wanna know, does that still hold true? No need for details, I’ll hang up to hear your reply. And thanks again!

No signal just wanted to get somethings out there to help people save their gas money trying to drive out to Tac Air to catch a glimpse of something....

There is a clear plan and a clear plan beyond that first plan all of which I am comfortable with...all won’t be but we know what they say about opinions.

A lot of today's info goes to prove that a "done deal" that was reported weeks ago was absolute BS. You listening, Beaver?

Thank you sir! And in Atlanta myself...if you are flying in..weather probably a lot different than when you left. Lol cold and windy. Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'm not Atlanta, but I can confirm you are not far off.

Agreed. However in this type of negotation the potential employee holds the cards...not the employer. So if that employee wants x...he will get x or more because he knows that employer wants said employee.

In my world (business not personal) if i want something...I will pay for it...regardless if it is overvalued at the time or not...if the expected long term value could be more beneficial than price paid for said services.

First post here on VolNation.

Just to measure the temperature here, how does everyone feel about Gruden's chances of becoming the next coach.

For me, it seems one day I am leaning to "yes," but the next day it's "no."

I believe Gruden would have shut negotiations down last week if he didn't intend to take the job. He knows that his non denials have frenzied the fanbase. He just bought a house in Knoxville. No way would he put his family in position to be hated by the fanbase. For the same reason, he has asked the world of UT, so he is in a position to win big.

Something I've been pondering, might have been said already...

But in regards to this mysterious detail of December 10th, being told to recruits. Gruden was on record last week saying something to the effect of "I'm sensitive to current coaches." Could possibly wait on announcement for the 10th bc it's after the regular season and championship games for everyone he might poach away.
