love this reasoning. 12 wins, 10 wins, 6 wins. If he can get 22 wins in two years here we are back to when Manning was here.
Yep
So smart

Exactly the same situation

Because I've watched Tennessee football long enough to know that hiring Butch Jones over again is a dumb move.

Because I can read what UCF fans have been saying about this bonehead coach over the last year or two as they've watched their team regress.

Because I can see that it takes a unique level of failure to fall back on hiring a coach from the school the AD just bailed on.

There's no good way to twist this hire. All these goobers pointing to his record forget that Butch had a nice record too, and was considered an offensive innovator with his spread offense.

Tell me exactly how this hire is different.

I can’t...just like you can’t otherwise. He wasn’t on my list and I’m not overly thrilled, either. But he is the coach, and I’ll hope for the best and that he works out...until he doesn’t.

The sanctions are a problem. And he likely was one of the few who were willing to die on that hill (ask Kiffin about that at USC; Luke at Ole Miss). I probably woulda just rolled with Steele for the next year or two, but I don’t make the decisions.

UCF went 10-3 and finished in the top 25 in 2019 before going 6-4 in 2020. The three losses in 2019 were by a combined seven points and three of 2020’s four losses were by a combined 12 points.

Beats the multitude of double digit losses all to hell

Heupel’s time at UCF did nothing to dent his reputation as a good offensive coach. Despite those quarterback injuries, the Knights finished fifth, second and second nationally in total offense in Heupel’s three seasons. Tennessee wanted to spark its offense with this hire, and those numbers suggest the Vols gave themselves a good chance to do that — especially if Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby comes with Heupel to Knoxville, and some around the program have suggested. Y’all wanted an experienced HC-check, y’all wanted big Offense-check. Quit your bitchin’

I wish I could like this about 4 million times.

I think they could have went and got this guy without paying DW millions. As usual pathetic...

You mean setting us up for the run for what we are complaining about today because we can't get back those days! I'll take it. Our best days were started with the foundation of Majors after he won a NC at Pitt! You're welcome

Two takes:
He’s better than Jeremy Pruitt in many ways. Firstly, he can speak English and hold an intelligent conversation without coming across as a dude with less than marginal intellect. And I think he comes to the job better prepared than Pruitt, by a long shot.

On the other side, he wasn’t exactly successful at UCF, and nothing indicates he’s a guy who can win championships at UT. He doesn’t at all strike fear or even hesitation in any SEC rivals.

But overall, going from Pruitt to Heupel is a slight upgrade in coaching for Tennessee.

And they are going to over pay Hype-ul as well.

I watched his speech when he took the UCF job and it was like watching Butch and Pruitt combined.

I really wish we didn’t know how to track planes so well around this place. It’s a curse.

Apparently his skill set doesn’t include Jedi mind tricking people into taking over an awful situation.

Exactly. It’s not a homerun hire, but we were not going to get a homerun based on our situation and the two different definitions of home run between the fans and admin

Good, as in we could have done worse? Which only says we could have done better.

White has lived a charmed life and the best he can do is steal the coach from the school he just left. Really? Hell, the UCF people are applauding this hire.
