OFFICIAL Gregg Marshall Thread

Memphis does not appreciate what Pastner has done here, kinda like cuonzo in Knoxville. One station here in memphis is saying there will be a "silent" offer to Pastner just to see if there is interest. Just passing on what is on the air here.

Sounds like wishful thinking by Memphis fans that want rid of the buster they've got as head coach.

Either that, or it has been dreamed up by Pastner supporters who try to make Memphis fans with a brain appreciate having Pastner. Kinda like the UT fans that wanted to claim Cuonzo was offered the Marquette job when everything pointed to the reality that he was never offered that job by the people that mattered.

Pastner sucks and has sucked ever since Calipari left for UK and he got the job as Mempiss coach

Since when has Pastner's name been seriously thrown around as a candidate? The guy has under achieved at Memphis and is 100% anti-Tennessee. Which is a good thing because he is a panzy.

Pastner sucks and hasn't done sh ite since getting the job. A lot of coaches could win like he does in that garbage conference.

Gregg was interested in the Tennessee job the last two hires and wasn't given the opportunity. I would say he is no longer interested for being denied twice and also having to deal with some of the fan base who petition to fire the coach. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't show any interest. He has it good at Wichita State.

Not a chance in hell that Marshall comes to UT. He's got a good thing going in Wichita and would be stupid to leave. UT will have to hire a B list guy because the A listers will turn UT down without a second thought. I hope and pray the next coach isn't a C or D list guy.

Money talks.....EVERY time. Just depends on if UT wants to pony up.

Having said that I would take Archie Miller, Lil Pitino, or a few others and be happy, if Marshall says no.

Please let the petition thing go. In the overall scheme of things it had nothing to do with Martins decision. I could get 30,000 signatures to see you eat a dog turd. The point is, people clamoring over the hurt feelings caused by the petition are blind and ignorant.

Wichita fans know they cannot keep their coach if money comes calling from a major school in a top BCS conference. Their chatter is wishful rhetoric though I do not blame them for hopping (against hope).

I'd like to know when he wanted the Tennessee job. If he wanted it, he would've had it.

He turned down a $2+ million offer from N.C. State and he's from that area

Big shot Haslam needs to pony up some cash - he paid a freakin center on the Browns 42 million last week

When Buzz was hired he was interviewed and passed on, and when Pearl was hired he was interviewed and passed on. He wanted the job both time but our AD was a moron, he also passed on Bill Self.

What kind of response is this ? A dog turd ? The level of education here seems to be going downhill over the years which is why I rarely visit anymore. The petition has a lot to do with influencing a coach's decision to stay or go, and furthermore it has a lot to do whether a coach decides to accept a job. Blindness and ignorance seems to be with those who do not have enough sense to treat people including coaches with some dignity and respect. If you have a problem with any coach, at least wait until the end of the season before taking any drastic measures like a petition.

I used dog turd to get the point across that getting names to sign up for something can be achieved very easily for meaningless things. I apologize if I lost you on that one.

Who started the petition? Was he/she in some position that means anything? Why is this considered "drastic"? Was the petition going to result in anything real? These are all questions that you should answer. Having realized the petition was a total joke I dismissed it months ago and never gave it a second thought.

I agree that people should be treated with respect and coaching changes should only be handled at the end of a season ( unless gross negligence occurs).

I liked most of what Martin did here, but he didnt leave because of a silly petition. If he did, then he didnt need to be in that position in the first place.

I have posted this on two other threads. Hart can go after Marshall but I'm not sure it will do any good. There is a very negative perception out there on how Conzo was handled, right or wrong, it is out there.

You might be right, but Hart better make that call and get told no. Besides he has listened on at least 2 previous occasions. The price has definitely gone up though if it is possible.

More tripe posting it once was enough. It's like the writers are trying to foment a Crucify UT and UT fans campaign.

Look at the date. Im pretty sure UT wasnt the target.

You are missing the point Ip. Whether or not the petition caused CM to leave is irrelevant at this point. The fact is a petition "can" and will influence whether a potential coaching candidate wants to come here with some of the fan base over-reacted with the petition. Any good coach knows there is going to be good and bad fanatical fans, but if a coach is concerned about his future and the financial welfare of his family, then he will naturally think twice about coming to a place where fans are after his head in the middle of a season.

I got ya....but I only want a coach that can shoulder that potential challenge. I feel sorry for coaches families as they didnt sign up for it. However, it happens everywhere.

I wished people would have brains and realistic expectations, but I also live in the real world and know that isnt going to happen ( in fact it is only going to get worse).

If that were 100% true, Kentucky would never be able to get a coach either.

I think most guys who get into coaching have the type of personality to assume they're going to win. They're more concerned about support from the AD and school--which helps them secure the best players and install their system--than with what the fans do.

Im dumbfounded by the absolutely ridiculous assumptions here.

If my proposal for a client was rejected twice and i stepped up my game to be the choice a third time, im all in!

It might be a strong statement but I think it is true. I'm just laughing at all these posts about how we could Smart, Wright, etc...Why on earth would these people want to leave their programs that they have built up? And not to mention come here at a pay cut and have to deal with ignorant fans? Let me know when the ticket to fantasy land is available.
