Holy Hell can we get off this "Schiano was a great program builder!" He was a .500 kinda guy at a program in the Big East, yes that's right the BIG EAST! Not the Big Ten! Yes, Rutgers is a part of the Big Ten now but at the time they were in a conference that is maybe equivalent to the group of 5. Those who are all over Schiano's Jock (no pun intended) do you watch any football outside the SEC?

One of Greg Schiano’s lasting legacies from his days as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach was a series of kneel-down incidents where his players would treat a quarterback kneel down as serious as a play in the middle of the game. Even with a blitz.

One of the NFL players at the time was former Tennessee star Peyton Manning, who was with the Denver Broncos at the time. In 2013, Manning carried on the backlash that first started the year before.

With reports of Schiano working out a deal to become Tennessee’s next coach, questions about these incidents and Manning’s reaction to them, will be raised in the coming days.

Schiano and the Bucs pulled the same blitzing move against Denver as it did against the Giants. And that drew the ire of Manning. According to Mike Silver of NFL.com, Manning cursed out Schiano after the game, just like Coughlin did. Ex-Buc Michael Bennet told Silver, “Peyton cussed him out. And I ain’t never heard Peyton cuss.”

That came after Tampa Bay players blitzed Eli Manning on a kneel-down play at the end of a seven-point loss. After that game, Giants coach Tom Coughlin cursed Schiano to his face after the game.


In his post-game press conference, Schiano was undaunted and dismissed questions about it being illegal or dirty.

Greg Schiano is currently concerned with the climate of the Tennessee fan base and the reaction towards reports of his contract being finalized at Tennessee. The deal may not get finalized.

Testimony: Greg Schiano, Tom Bradley knew of Sandusky abuse at Penn State

McQueary testifies under oath that both Bradley and Schiano knew of Sandusky’s actions. Did he he commit perjury? If so Schiano should have called him on it since his reputation and career are in the line. Instead he just releases a statement denying it. Absolutely weak.

Schiano’s silence is absolutely deafening on this topic.

I'm not questioning the loyalty of fans upset by the hire. I am, however, questioning the 'fandom' of so-called 'fans' who say they'll stop being fans if a particular coach is hired or not hired. Aren't they themselves setting those parameters? I'm just stating the obvious.

That said, I'm not particularly thrilled about it either, but I'm not upset. I had my heart set on Peterson. But remember, Currie reportedly already talked to Peterson and possibly offered Gruden - both likely turned us down - Frost, Mullen, and Campbell weren't options b/c of high buyout or chose somewhere else - which led to either Kiffen (which would have been good IMO but lots of fans would have been upset there also) or another mid-major Google coach. We've tried that and it doesn't work. Schiano wasn't at the top of my list, but he was on the list and is a serious hire.
