Official Greg Schiano thread

I recommend using foam-based mattresses for the ensuing riots; there's less mess and no spring shrapnel such as you'd have with spring-based mattresses.

Lots of hate here for Greg Schiano, including people threatening to 'turn in their fan card,' or something. First of all, if you're going to stop following UT over a coach, sorry but you were never much of a fan in the first place. Sure, I would have preferred Frost, Gruden, Kiffen, or especially Chris Peterson, but if UT hires Schiano we need to get behind him and look at the positives - and there are PLENTY.

To those who say nobody wanted Schiano, consider this Meyer quote before the start of the year:

"He was offered two head coaching jobs -- two significant head coaching jobs -- and he made a decision to come back," Meyer said when asked by NJ Advance Media. "I've known Greg for a long time -- and he's a head coach. He will be a head coach (again)."

One of these included Oregon before Taggart was hired.

Schiano is a guy who knows how to build a program, and succeeded massively at a place (Rutgers) that had zero football tradition. If he can recruit Rutgers, I think he can recruit Tennessee.

And he's a solid recruiter. This piece calls Schiano Ohio State's 'unsung hero' on the recruiting trail.

And how about this headline from last year: "Urban Meyer’s best recruiting job at Ohio State: Keeping Greg Schiano for 2 years."

Also, this piece about Mark May giving Schiano a lot of credit for what Ohio State has accomplished this year.

The Penn State stuff is hearsay at best, but Schiano is a serious hire, a great recruiter who is well regarded in the coaching community. Even discounting what we know about how previous coaches actually would end up performing at UT, Schiano has a more solid resume than any previous hire since Majors.

So, if Schiano is the hire let's get behind him and give him a shot. Expressing hate on Volnation and elsewhere isn't going to do any good and certainly isn't going to help recruiting.

All time low. Might as well hire Sandusky as the DC. I take back everything I said about Kiffin. I'd take him over anyone tied to that BS at Penn State.

Currie sucks.

Greg who??? Really???? TN just comes off the worst football I have every seen from any team, not just at TN, from the result of three bad hires in a row and Currie wants to hire Greg Sh somebody! Utterly ridiculous and irresponsible. I am tired of no name hires and junk performance. TN football could very well evaporate. Where is the "Fire Currie" thread???

Take out the off-the field-stuff for a second and I think he's probably the best on-paper coach we've hired since Fulmer... and unfortunately that's not saying much.

He has had elite defenses at multiple stops, NFL HC Experience, and knows what it takes to build a program up... but I'm disappointed we couldn't do better in the character department.

What a ****ing shame. Oh well...

To all who support Schiano: Meet me at Cedar Bluff Waffle House at 5pm today. And bring a friend to drive you to hospital.

I support you a 100 on that. but lets wait till we hear it from curries mouth. That will give the hospital time to get ready for the slaughter.:)

Let's see how good he recruits with the Sandusky crap hanging from his neck. Sure, I'd love my child to be mentored under you

IMHO anything associated with Pedophilia State / Joe Paterno is tainted; He may be the next coming of Fulmer but I don't care. I'd rather UT hire a HS coach ....again my opinion

Look guys, Tennessee needs Schiano what he did building up Rutgers was amazing. And right now that's where Tennessee is.... a bottom feeder in the SEC. The guy is an amazing coach and recruiter.he can turn Tennessee around and the best hire Tennessee has made.

So grow up or get out. Support him and he can win big!

He has been vetted and cleared of a statement written under duress from a memory 20+ years ago an

Go Vols glad to have someone who is a legitimate HC for Tennessee with the toughness needed to turn things around.

Look Greg, any more posts like this and we're going to ban you. Unlike UT athletics we have standards here.

I don't think you understand the reason for some of us to revolt.

It's not about football. It's about supporting someone who, semantics aside, dang well knew what was going down at Penn State. I cannot and will not support that. Period.

I'm not interested in future recruiting if this hire is made. I'll just be gone.

Hire Sumlin. Seriously. 86-43 and a great recruiter.

Hire Tee Martin- at the minimum one of the best recruiters in the country who won’t run half the kids off.

Hire Cutcliffe- boring- but can coach up talent.

Hire Kiffin- the skirts he chases are over the age of 18.

Hire Kacy Rodgers. Why the hell not...

All the above will be able to recruit the state of Tennessee... and we are about to hire a walking, talking negative recruiting tactic?

I can already hear Kirby Smart or Nick Saban lean over to a prospective recruits parent and say “have you seen this article about that UT coach who visited your son? Here you go...” with an innocent grin.

He'll make us relevant all right - in the way that Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Louis C.K. are relevant.

1. Greg Schiano has denied the statement

2. Even the accusation doesn't say what happened

3. The guy that wrote the statement SAID HE HEARD IT SECOND HAND FROM SOMEONE ELSE!!!!

All you posting he covered up rape, he knew and did nothing.

ARE ALL SHOWING EVERYONE HOW STUPID YOU ACTUALLY ARE THAT YOU CANT EITHER READ OR HAVE NO LOGYTHOUGHT PROCESS

GO VOLS!!!

If he was the best coach we could get, it is what it is and I would suffer through him like I did Dooley and Jones... but with his association with Sandusky, I will no longer support, attend, or watch Tennessee Athletics as long as he is a part of the University.
Are you going to hold a press conference? Your absence will be devastating.

Hire O. J. Simpson! Has no buyout after release from his previous position. Was acquitted in that unfortunate Nicole/Goldman matter. And, the dude knows football!

Makes more sense than Coach "can't tell Schiano from Shinola."

Your information is not accurate. Additionally, even if Schiano didn't do anything "legally" wrong, he was close enough to the s*** to still smell of it. Currie would be a f****** idiot to hire this guy. ALL THAT ASIDE his record as a HC BLOOOOOWS
