And when rival SEC recruiters show up with the Washington Post article, we're dead in the water with recruits and their families...as we should be. What Schiano allegedly did or failed to do is far bigger than football. Hiring Schiano would prove Tennessee cares nothing about the welfare of young people. My top two competencies in a coach is someone that can coach x's and o's and recruit. I don't care if they win a press conference. I want someone that can go toe to toe with Saban from a scheme perspective.
I was not thrilled with the idea of Schiano because I wasn't sure about his recruiting ability. The more I research his time at Ohio State the more I can get behind this. He's been killing it on the recruiting trail and has a good sales pitch of getting players to the NFL. He would be able to put together a staff of NFL coaches. Think about that for a second, a coaching staff that can actually coach. I didn't like it at first, but i'm starting to come around.

The man is killing it in recruiting and with no buyout - NFL experience, etc. he could get it rolling quicker than many others. The Penn State stuff was one guy throwing long gone coaches under the bus with disputed allegations. None of this is relevant now. Vol squad needs a strong dose of discipline and direction and I also warmed up to Schiano after looking at his total experience. I was amazed at his success at Rutgers which almost dropped football at one time.
Keep in mind, I have always felt underwhelming names get added as finalists so that when they do announce the hire, it's a "phewwww" from the fan base therefore doesn't seem as bad. That might be happening here. If Currie couldn't get a Gruden, Petersen, or Frost, then it seems a bit of a disappointment, throwing the name of someone underwhelming and out of no where allows the base to get behind someone a little more like Mullen because it could have been worse.
PR 101
Mullen is the grand slam hire if he can be signed no doubt. Anyone disappointed in that hire mystifies me. If Dan declines, that is where it gets tough to make a competent backup choice. Frost, Kelly, Gruden and Petersen were never realistically in the mix. I hope Mullen is but I would not be surprised if it is just a ploy for him to be set for life at Miss. State.
Coaching Rumors: Tennessee coaching search may be 'over' with announcement looming
It's going to be Mullen or Schiano

Guys. Its not Schiano. Im no insider and have zero sources. However, Im fairly certain about this. By all accounts Peyton has been involved in this hire to some extent.
Google - Peyton Manning Greg Schiano

Schiano was heavily implicated to have known about the Sandusky situation at Penn State, and like the rest of the sick cowards involved did nothing. In my opinion Schiano should have been put to trial to determine the validity of these allegations. He was not, but I will not stand for someone that Implicated in something so foul and so sick, to be the leader of something I love so much.
