Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I have you pegged as more like one of the engineers that got us to the moon.

I went nuclear rather than aerospace engineering. Never felt really dissatisfied with my choice, but with hindsight, I might well have flipped between the two. Believe it or not since a huge part of my work dealt with flow induced vibration, there's some similarity even though the fluid medium is different. The aerospace industry really outpaced the nuclear power industry to the detriment of electric power generation.

I doubt if Nico ever heard or stepped foot in the engineering building named after this guy (Joh Dobbs probably has)

I may well have seen your brother around. I started in '64, quit in '67, and returned after Army and working while my wife finished nursing school - got back to UT in '72 as I recall.

I had a few classes in that building (Dougherty) - mostly metallurgical engineering as I recall. As far as football and engineering go, they mostly exist in different worlds. I did talk sometimes with Bob Johnson - he was in engineering and we generally made the walk from engineering classes to AFROTC about the same time. I also knew Bert Ackermann from Oak Ridge - worked in his department under a graduate research assistantship. Bert played at UT and was an SEC official for many years. Not really many engineering/football crossovers - probably has a lot to do with the time demanded by both.

Bob Johnson and my brother were friends... my brother told me his dorm was in South Stadium which was basically inside the bowels of Neyland. He volunteered for the Army after he graduated and did a least a tour in Viet Nam with the 101st.

if you ever want to go down memory lane... all the UTK yearbooks are on line.... here is '64

I looked at my freshman year and saw Pawl Finebaum with hair and Gene Wojochewiski (sp?)
