Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

figured you for an AMC Gremlin

Buddy of mine had a snot green AMC Gremlin in HS. Super POS.

Fun fact: the hole in the gas tank for an AMC Gremlin is strangely large enough to fit a diesel nozzle from the gas station...unlike every single other car I have ever seen in 47 years of life. Buddy and I were hammered and stopped for gas one night late...he put 10 or 15 dollars worth of diesel into his Gremlin which mixed with whatever gas was in the tank. We went to my parents house afterwards ~2AM and ready to crash....but when he cut the car off, it wouldnt stop. The engine just went gurgle gurgle gurgle BANG!!! girgle gurgle BANG!!! Just barely idling followed by frequent backfires SUPER LOUD that sounded like gunfire. We kept trying every 30 mins or so to turn the car off and park it so we could sleep....but no luck. Ended up having to drive around all night smoking and drinking until we ran it almost completely out of gas/diesel....then we scrounged up a couple bucks in change and put enough regular gas in it to both get us home, and be able to cut the engine off. It was dawn when we finally parked that POS and got some sleep. Good times. I was 17 years old.

You got any tips for fishing on Norris in late April? Preferably close to Maynardville.
You mean besides fishing on Douglas or Chick instead? Hahaha!

Depends on timing of the spawn for both largemouth and smallmouth. It looks like it will be a timely spawn this year so long as we don't see a weather patter change. If you put in at the free launch at 33 bridge, you can fish within 10 miles in either direction for small mouth. Find the fish on your graph in 15 to 30 feet of water and target them using small jigs or tube baits. A texas rigged fluke or caffeine shad in green pumkin works well after dark when the fish often move shallower. Fish SLOW, dragging the bait and targeting points, ledges, and boulders with gravel around them.

The largemouth may be in spawn, but not all spawn at the same time in a lake as large as Norris. Depending on where the water levels were when they chose a spawning site will depend on whether you should concentrate on brush and bushes, or large rocks and rocky points. If the water was up when started spawning, they'll be on wood, if it was low, they'll be on rocks. Won't take long for you to find out. Keep it simple and fish no deeper than 10 feet deep. Use your eyes to find the structure an target it with a Texas rigged trick worm or small to medium sized ribbon tails in red or purple colors. Texas rigged flukes work too. Keep moving until you develop a pattern and then keep replicating that. The 33 bridge area is good, but if you want to try something different, then go put in in the Sycamore creek area in Claiborne county. It's a whole different lake up there and can be feast or famine. If you want to crappie fish then this would be the place to be as well.

If the moon is out, the main section of the lake closer to the Loyston sea can yield some walleye casting the banks with silver and black colored deep diving smithwicks and storm lures in the same color after dark.

Having to move Dad to an Assisted Living Memory Care Facility tomorrow, he can no longer care for himself at all and I can no longer care for him in the capacity that he needs. I’m sad and nervous to the point of being sick. I have dreaded this day for a long time and while I knew it would more than likely take place I still am having a hard time coping with it. He’s not in favor even though he knows he needs it. This just sucks!

Damn man I'm really sorry to hear that. That has to be tough and it's in my future as well.

It does suck. The knowledge you did all you could for as long as you could will give you some solace as the years pass.

Had to do that for my Mother when my Father passed. It's tough but you have to come to grips with your limits and recognize when he'll be better cared for by professionals than you can manage. Just visit often and look for the good for him in the change.
