Official Global Warming thread (merged)

This is my take. I'm much less concerned about rising sea levels and other projected consequences than I am about what will happen when the price of oil doubles (again). That won't be pretty.

People are gonna be gouged for all they can regardless of energy source.

Can you go into more detail.

I won't speak for govols/cc, but have you ever looked at the investment of solar to power a house? Or wind? Trying to take a home off grid is not cheap and takes a long time to pay for itself. Solar panels used to be decently priced, but not anymore.

Now look at fuel prices. Diesel, once one of the cheapest forms of combustion fuel, is now 50-75 cents more per gallon than gasoline. Higher fuel costs, higher transportation costs, higher price on consumer goods. Ethanol, which is "renewable" raises the price of grain and takes up farmland that otherwise would be used for food. So food prices rise.

Coal has almost been regulated out of existence by the Obama Administration, but could be a cheap form of energy available in our back yard.

Each time something "alternative" comes out, the price automatically goes up on it. E85 used to be half the cost per gallon of gasoline. Same with diesel. Both are "alternative" fuels, but drastically more expensive. CNG is another one that's just coming to market and I expect the price to rise as well in the future as it catches on.

So yes, we get gouged each and every time a new energy source comes out.

Nation's Snowmen March Against Global Warming | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

WASHINGTON, DC—Braving balmy temperatures and sunny skies, millions of scarfless snowmen and snowwomen gathered in cities across the world Tuesday to raise public awareness about the heavy toll global warming is taking on their health and well-being.

According to organizers of marches in Washington, Atlanta, Montreal, Berlin, London, Reykjavik, and Moscow, global warming is the primary cause of the steep reduction in the snowman population throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Demonstrators worldwide called on their governments to take more aggressive steps to reduce the effects of climate change.

Organizers estimated the crowd at more than 375,000, but D.C. Police Commissioner Charles Stacey estimated turnout at 30,000 whole snowmen, with scattered rounded abdomens accounting for an additional 5,000. Atlanta organizers and police agree that all demonstrators had melted by 11 a.m.

We will soon reach are carrying capacity in population which will result on mass devastation. Mainly for third world countries. I do agree that is a major global issue that appears to be inevitable. But regardless of whether global warming is an issue, our natural resources will run out eventually. While I'm not sure it will happen in our lifetime, we have to realize that the world our children's children live in will be devastating unless we can think of more efficient alternatives.

I wonder if all the "global warming" is what has caused ole faithful to start acting up?

New report says that when she blows she will belch out enough ash to layer the mid west states in 10 foot of ash,a 1,000 miles wide.

Wonder how big of a carbon foot print that will leave?

Who knows but someone will be fined & fined heavily.

130 earthquakes in one week.

She could blow tomorrow or 100 years from now. They don't know. But they do know, when she does, it's over for us.

Better go buy me a Prius. Do my part and all

It seems like many of you guy's reasonings for why global warming isn't man made is that the earth has warmed before the existence of humans. While that is true, I don't think it is accurate to use that logic on arguing that man can not possibly contribute to global warming.

One volcano eruption does more "damage" to global weather than everything man has ever done. Instead of worrying yourselves over the exhaust pouring out of my V8 maybe its time to think about capping volcano's!

LOL, not a fan of empty minded students.......much like yourself. Not a lot of spin to be put on an engineering degree. Everything else is subject to the opinion of the professor.

Your quantum mechanics professor might disagree.

All we have to do is do our part and buy more of Al Gore's carbon credits. We're obviously not doing enough of our part.

The climate is always changing. Warmer, colder, wetter, dryer. It changes constantly. Spending billions on fighting constant change, good or bad, is f****** retarded.

I'm down with this ^ 100%
