I’ve held off on saying anything to not overreact. Listened so many times to the worries of the team not being battle tested and it proved to be true. I thought it was hogwash, but the moment things started to go awry, Duke completely froze. Coaches and players. The inbounds plays were poorly designed and the execution was even worse. All credit to Houston for pouncing when given the chance, but Duke melted. Very tough way to end a season

Credit to Houston for never quitting and for making the plays that needed to be made. Congrats to the Gators on the Title. They had a great season and won the league title in the best conference.

All that said, I think Duke was the best team. At no point during or since the Duke vs Houston game have I ever thought Houston was better. It was evident watching the game that Duke was a better basketball team. It’s The same way I still feel about the 2001 LSU game in Atlanta, except there was no indestructible Miami team waiting for them, there was a very good, but beatable Florida Gator team. This one isn’t as bad losing to UConn in 99, but it’s not that distant after I’ve had more time to digest it.

Losing pieces, adding pieces. Gonna be a different looking team in Chapel Hill this fall. Hopefully they’ll be better at basketball.

It could be Ernest T Bass and he’d still be better.

I’m sure there are some quality coaches that would leave a school to coach in Chapel Hill. That being said Sister Mary won’t hire anyone with baggage so we’re probably stuck for a while.

This is definitely a big year for Hubert. He has to finish top 3 in the ACC, and I’m afraid Duke won’t be UNC’s issue moving forward. UNC and Duke have always been accepting that they will beat each other half the time . They’re both excellent programs. What UNC will not be prepared for is Will Wade making NC State good, and I think he will definitely make State very relevant. Carolina fans/admin cannot and will not accept UNC being in 3rd place behind Duke and State. I don’t see Duke going anywhere at the moment, I feel like under Scheyer Duke can stay 1a or 1b as it’s been for the last 40 years w/UNC, but State is going to be good soon and Carolina needs to hit a home run w/ whatever direction they go.

Only way Carolina has a prayer to keep up is recruiting has to hit whatever level is above Dukes.
As of right now I would be content with losing to State if it meant a changing of the guard.

Every time I think Duke or Carolina is about to take a big step above the other one, the opposite happens. I thought after UNC wins a National Championship in 2009, Harrison Barnes chose UNC over Duke, UNC was going to be on top for a long time, then out of nowhere Duke wins the 2010 title. Weird things happen in this rivalry, more so than in just about any other rivalry.

How true that is countless times I can remember a really bad Carolina team managed to split the season series against Duke somehow. When Duke should have won in a route.

Duke vs UNC really is the one rivalry where the cliche “throw out the records” applies. I was at the game in 95 when Capel hit the half court shot to go to overtime. Duke finished 13-18 for the season I think. Austin Rivers team had no business beating that UNC squad. UNC was 1 of 2 teams to beat Duke in 92 when they won their back to back title, UNC wins it in 93. Duke wins the the title in 2015, UNC should’ve won it in 2016, but goes on to win in 2017. It truly is one of the great rivalries .

We should schedule an exhibition game and sell tickets with all proceeds going to local charities in Chapel Hill and Raleigh. It's tradition. Screw the conference suits.

Good idea. I think we can take it a step further and have the Big 4 Tobacco Road Tournament in Greensboro in November or December like they use to in the 70’s. I don’t think it would devalue anything to have an in season tournament where Duke plays UNC or UNC plays state and extra time. Hell, Wake would be happy just for the invite and the eyeballs .
