Official Debate I Thread

One thing about Trump is he is brutally honest. He could have hemmed and hawed over the answer he gave, but he gave the correct (and only) answer to the question that was posed. And I don't know if they didn't bat an eye over his answer or were too shocked to respond with the limited time they had.

Bombastic attitude and dislike aside, the man will tell you what he's thinking. He may not be Presidential, but honesty is kind of refreshing for a change.

Brutal honesty is refreshing however, as the leader of the free world and a CIC - I want my POTUS to have measured responses.

Weird that the guy with the most fringe opinions and least amount of time to express them didn't impress. Brilliant job by FNC to goad him with the Chrisie nonsense and then ignore him after.

Paul didn't do himself any favors but the deck is stacked against him.

Don't start with the excuses for Paul. He has time, he has a chance to get the nomination but to do so he will have to do much better than he did last night.

Romney handed that election to Obama. He turned his base off.

However you want to describe it, there was "no way" Obama would win in 2012, and he kicked Romney's ass.

So again, I'll believe it when I see it that the Rs can win what is supposedly a sure win.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd find a POTUS that speaks his mind and is blunt and honest a refreshing change. And I don't want someone sugar coating telling a nation like Iran that we will kill them and break their toys if they get out of line.

I'm not saying I'd support Trump by any means other than the fact he would make your's and LG's heads spin on a daily basis. But I think the double speak and dishonesty in politics has finally gotten so bad the American voter will flock to a candidate that's sincere and tells it like it is. Trump was right that political correctness has gotten out of control and that's the part of his charm. He's not PC. He's not going to sugar coat what he says. And he's going to have an answer for every question the media throws at him like the support for the Clintons. And the average Joe and Jane voter will respond to that.

This I agree with. He needs to be smarter with his time he has in these debates. He'll get more chances though.

This. All day.

FNC and their contributors have it out for Paul and that is clear by watching only a half hour of their ridiculous network.

The thing is - do you think Trump believe half the things he says? Because I don't. I think he's saying it to rile up support. In all honestly, I think he would have run as a Democrat had he thought he could get the nomination. He's just taking the easier path.

Also, I don't understand the willingness to accept "he says what he believes" if his beliefs are fundamentally wrong and flawed. It's a terrible line of thinking.

I prefer mine to play golf while the world burns, but to blame the whitey police right out of the gate when he confronts a black criminal.

If this is the case he should be smart enough to utilize his time wisely and not be goaded into meaningless conversations. He should conduct himself in a presidential manner.

I don't disagree. He should have made some moves last night concerning Iran, but I loved his Israel answer. I also liked how he came after Trump right out of the gate. He'll get better.

Did anyone else think it was odd that Trump admitted to gaming the system for chapter filings? I also think it's a sad indictment that he could openly admit that he gave money to politicians for favors. And no one batted an eye - probably because half the panel has taken money from him. He seemed proud of it, how is this ok?

I also thought Christie talking about "beefing up the military" was cavalier considering he never addressed what would be an astronomical cost to American tax payers. No one called him out on that, is it just taboo to publicly talk about or criticize someone who wants to spend money on the military (without respect to taxpayer cost)?

Did it freak you out that a politician told the truth? It did me

How can you say that about any politician these days? Do you honestly think any of them believe what they say? Last night he showed a pretty open and honest dialog even though his answers weren't in line with your thinking. And you hate him for resonating with the ordinary people that are tired of hearing the same talk from the same politicians and will readily accept a new face with what appears to be brutal honesty.

You don't like him and I understand. Because every time he opens his mouth, he marginalizes your chosen candidates from the (D) side of the house by stealing their press. And you're getting sucked into the very web he is weaving. You just can't stop talking about him. Neither can the media. And ratings are what wins elections. Do you honestly think Obama would have won either time without the support of the media? They loved the guy and couldn't stop talking about him. Same is going right now. Each and every media outlet cannot stop talking about Trump.

And that's what he wants. So keep talking about him.

You give "people" too much credit. They claim to be tired of it but we'll see who gets the nominations.

I agree..... Trump..... While he may be serious .... I'm not sure the general public is taking him seriously. I'm certain he's an intelligent guy or he wouldn't be as successful as he is, but there's just something about him that seems cartoonish

Too early to put any stock in polling. She has yet to be put in the spotlight, answer questions or participate in a debate. Once her team is not in total control of the situation and questions, her true nature will come out.

You realize what a Clinton is, right?

It took a rock star of a politician to beat her last time. Rs don't have that.

Haha, OK. Can't mention time spoken in debates. Got it.

He's essentially acting out many people's fantasy of being able to just show up to debates and not having to act all prim and proper.

That's great and all for a laugh and press but after a while, it won't cut it.
