Official Countdown to the 2019 Tennessee Vols Football Season

49 days........

In 1991, Carl Pickens was an All-SEC and 2nd Team All-American. He led the Vols with 49 receptions for 877 yrds and 5 TDs. Tennessee would finish 9-3 and ranked #14.

I had good seats for the 1990 Cotton Bowl and saw Carl and Alvin Harper light it up. Ken Hatfield's Arkansas team compiled more offense, but lost to the Vols. Turnovers and getting beat deep were the Hogs downfall. Fine day for the Big Orange and Tennessee fans.

First post for me and a random one, I grew up a Georgia Tech fan but always liked the vols. Around this time last year I hopped completely on board with the vols and I have never been more engaged with a team, I’ve been obsessive with following them along with basketball and baseball. Even though I usually hate bandwagon fans, now I guess I am one. But I can’t wait to make it to neyland for the first time when they play BYU. Feel like an outsider of a fan but I feel like going to that first game is going to make me feel like I’m officially apart of the family. GBO

Hopping aboard during the worst season in school history means you can never be considered a bandwagon fan.
Someone get this fine addition to our fan base some cornbread and a glass of orange-koolaid.

Thanks for that! I will say even though last year was a pretty tough year for the vols, it was still the most exciting season of college football I’ve ever watched. Sec football hits differently!

47 days.......

Von Reeves only had 50 receptions, 443 yrds, and 2 TDs in his UT career, but his one and only pass attempt was legendary! On a rainy night in October of 1990, Von took a handoff from Andy Kelly, dropped back, and fired a perfect spiral to a streaking Carl Pickens for a 47 yard TD in a 45-3 victory over the hated Gators.

You deserve an extra like for the "hated gators" part.

45 days.......

From 1998-2001, Will Bartholomew was an integral part of the Vols offense. Although Bartholomew was used predominantly as a blocking back, he did have 45 career touches for 251 yards and 1 TD. He was a 3x academic All-SEC and made the 2001 All-SEC Good Works Team. He is now CEO of D1 Sports.

Gene McEver was a 2x All American for the Vols and All Southern in 1928, 29, and 31. On October 20, 1920 (the 1st Third Saturday of October), McEver returned the opening kickoff 98 yrds for a TD in the Vols 15-13 victory over Alabama.
That 98 yard return was one of McEvers’ 44 total touchdowns in his Vol career. He still holds the record for most career TDs.

This was way to simple.....
On October 1, 2016, Jauan Jennings only caught 3 passes for 71 yards, but it was the 43 yard Hail Mary catch with no time on the clock that will be remembered for generations.
