That neutral site game in December on a Saturday night at 10PM in San Antonio against NC State was heinous. That kind of stuff should never happen.

Agreed. 10 PM tips in general shouldn’t happen for a team from the East Coast unless it’s a tournament game or part of some home-and-home series with a West Coast team. That game against NC State was not big enough to justify it being over around 12:15 AM

All about tv. You can get some odd scenarios when football is still playing. I am pretty sure there were 5 bowl games that day, all of which are owned or televised by ESPN. That game was also part of a doubleheader, and there was a game before it. The basketball doubleheader in Houston (LSU v. Texas and A&M v. Houston) got the afternoon slots. That was the full slate on ESPN and ESPN2 that day. For us fans, we don't care what channel it's on as long as we have it. But, these doubleheaders and neutral site games get specific tv deals.

It’s really stupid when the SEC Network has games in the Central Time Zone begin at 7pm while teams in the Eastern TZ tip off at 9pm.

What’s really ridiculous is that TN football is kicking off at 12:30 on 8/31 with temps forecast to be close to 100 this week. Danny White will be watching from an air conditioned spot though. I hope there’s enough medical staff manning the Red Cross stations. I hope nobody dies from heat stroke.

Best OOC home is against a terrible Syracuse team that is in the midst of a rebuild. Just embarrassing at this point (and this is not a Tennessee only complaint, this is throughout college basketball). Louisville and Illinois on the road is fine but hate playing Miami as a neutral site game. I rather that be a home game against a Big East opponent like Villanova or Creighton.

Rather they just play 30 SEC games, home/away, for the regular season at this point.
Some big teams rather play in a neutral site rather than a home and home.

The high in Knoxville is 90° on Saturday, and mostly cloudy as of now. Definitely hot, but nothing I'd consider to be heat stroke inducing. There was a home opener against UCLA 30 years ago, or so, that was just unbelievable. Another noon kickoff that day and the temp on the field was something like 108°.

Definitely an overreaction lol. I'm sure everyone will be fine. Also, AD doesn't get as much say as kickoff times as people think, that's usually the SEC/Network's decision

Wednesday - Friday it’s expected to be 95, 96, and 94. Walk a mile or two from a parking spot and sit in the sun on aluminum bleachers for a couple of hours and I could definitely stroke out.

The UCLA game was 9/14/1991.

I didn’t say that Danny decides the kickoff time. I said he’ll be sitting in an air conditioned area. He really doesn’t care. He’s not going to be an advocate for the smelly people sitting in the cheap seats.

Game is played on Saturday, though, when it will several degrees cooler. How does the weather on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday affect that? Unless you're starting that two-mile hike a day or two early to beat the rush. 😀

In my 1st post I said that the temps will be approaching 100 degrees this week. It’s a bit early to declare that Saturday will ‘only’ be 90.

Never the less, there shouldn’t be games played in August and especially in August kicking off during the 12:00 hour. UT put up lights in 1972 because Penn State didn’t want to play a 2PM game in the middle of September.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but let’s assume that DW or UT does have power to influence the game time and/or if the game is on a network. If you put the game later in the day closer to prime time games with interesting matchups, that would likely guarantee the game isn’t on TV and is on like ESPN+ or something and then you would have a bunch of people complaining that the game isn’t televised.
