Official Coaching Search Thread

Phil mentioned continuity and expected the new coach and new AD to work together for at least 10 years to stabilize the program. He then reiterated this by saying he’s 70 and doesn’t plan to work until he’s 80 and therefore he’s not the right AD.

Probably just selling his forced retirement but it leads me to believe they may go long term contract AKA Jimbo Fisher type of scenario to clean up this mess. Just my observations. Wish nothing but the best for the program and would love to see us winning again soon.

If we were going 13-0 or 0-13 I don't give a tinkers damn what the rest of the SEC thinks.

You wouldn't. It would be the usual Kiffin story. Limp into bowl contention, get everybody pumped with some imaginative play calling in a few games ....

The either blow up, or fall flat by the end of the season or early next.

How about we hire Sarah Fuller? You think she'd be interested in the job? She may have kicking eligibility left also...

If you hire Kiffin you will be mocked relentlessly by the rest of the SEC. I dont care if you go 13-0 every year for five straight years. No respect for that decision. Desperation to reach for some wild card you just hope can turn it around isn't worth it.

You need someone solid, respected, who can rebuild from scratch. Not a hail Mary.
Oh I would hate to be mocked by the rest of the SEC! Glad that isn’t already happening.

We are getting mocked relentlessly as it is...5 straight 13-0 seasons?...Oh hell yes!...I'll take all that misery please!...That means Kiffin will have beaten Florida and Alabama and UGA 5 straight years and that is almost as good as going 13-0 for 5 years by itself!....Hire that man right now!!!

So Belichick didn’t have the greatest the greatest quarterback of all time? Just when I think I have read the best deflection of supporting their point of all time then ding, ding, ding you win the prize
You seem to have poor reading comprehension. He absolutely had the best quarterback of all time - which in no way detracts from him still being the best football coach of all time. I even gave you a very specific example to prove my point, i.e. Dungy having one of the best quarterbacks of all time, one whom some on here try to put above Brady, yet only getting one Super Bowl win.

Phil Jackson coached the greatest basketball player of all time, and the second-greatest (Kobe Bryant), and that in no way makes him not the greatest basketball coach of all time, which he is.

There was a caller on Basilio show that said this and made sense “Who do our rivals NOT want us to hire?” We always are looking for next best thing We should be looking at who our Rivals DONT want Just an opinion and that’s all Kiffin wants to be back and we need him and our rivals would hate to see that. So let’s bring Ingram in as our AD then hire Kiffin

Wonder if Chris Peterson would be interested? He may feel refreshed after taking a year off. With possible sanctions, the pressure to win at all cost and immediately wouldn’t be there from the administration standpoint. Fans will still be obnoxious as always, but I think he may be able to right the ship and make this program elite again. I also believe he’d be able to recruit better players to UT than he did at Washington.

Kiffin? At TN. 7-6 deserted after 1year
At USC 28-15. Fired after 4 years
At FAU 27-13 Left for Ole Miss
At Ole Miss 5-5 1 year
Winning % 58 - avg years at each school 2.25
That means 7 wins - 5 loses per year
Is that the 'winner' you really want
If my math is correct
I have said repeatedly he is overrated as a HC. Probably fun to be around or listen to with his brashness but at the core he is style over substance.

Men of Steele. I kinda feel like f it. Why not?
But in all seriousness if they pull this mark Ingram guy, I could see Bill Clark coming and coach Steele being the DC. Dang that would be so bad ass.

As elementary as your posts are, it’s really not a tough read. Thank you for so eloquently (look it up) making my point. Belichik couldn’t even make the playoffs after TB12 left, in fact he had a losing record just like his 36-44 record at Cleveland.

I think Freeze would do well here but there’s no way he gets a shot after what Pruitt and co did. Kiffin will also not be considered. i will be very surprised if Steele is not the interim for at least this next season And if we manage 6 wins or better he will get to keep the job four years.

Phil also said recruiting was a bright spot during the Pruitt era. Hey let’s recognize cheating worked. I wouldn’t pay any attention to what Phil says.

Steele not gonna get it ... and waiting a year aint gonna work .. can't hire good coaches that way ... others will be jumping now ..they need a coach tommorrow ... get it done . AD then Coach .. asap

A clumsy attempt at justifying the worst decision any Tennessee administrator has made since hiring Bill Battle over King Johnny.

The more I look the more I like Herman and Malzahn. Mainly because they have won at programs like UT, can assemble good staffs and don’t have NCAA baggage. They can come in and win quickly. Freeze would be great, but would take either Malzahn or Herman and see it as an upgrade.

Chadwell and Napier would be positives, but never coached at a program like this, so risky, maybe worth the risk.

Fair point. The TN Football program is a dumpster fire no matter how you spin it. But obviously the cheating didn’t work or we would’ve won more than 3 games this season. Just solidifies how bad Pruitt really is both as a manager and a coach.
