Official Coaching Search Thread

Really hope it's Napier. My head says nope and Steele is even money. Really, what coach will want to take the job and have to accept Steele and perhaps Garner on the staff. Napier wants complete control I don't see that at UT with the way things are set up at the moment.

I'm betting Steele or Chadwell.

I'd rather have Chadwell and keep Steele as DC / assistant

I see no way Freeze gets this job. I like Bill O'Brien he did a good job at PSU when all that mess was goin on.

I keep seeing Jerod Mayo’s name pop up by the Mike Farrell’s of the world... Don’t get me wrong I love Jerod. He and I were in school at the same time together, he’s seemed to have success at the NFL level as a coach w/ the Pats as a position coach, but I just don’t know why people think he’s ready to take over a job of this magnitude. If he had any college coaching experience I think I might think differently, but this is a big time rebuild and I just don’t see it with him.

hearing that manning will be in the coaching search. who will he go with?
Look, I love Peyton. Anyone who bleeds orange loves Peyton. But I'm beginning to get to the point where I don't want any legacies making the decisions anymore. Peyton wanted and pushed for Schiano. Fulmer wanted, pushed for, and ultimately got Pruitt hired. Both decisions turned out to be absolute debacles. So, maybe it's time we let other professionals do their job and stop letting legacies have the say in order to play puppet master.

I'll shut up and allow the hate to come my way...

Kevin Steele will not sell tickets and the stadium would be an embarrassment.

Really? I guess we'll see. I don't know and beyond caring anymore. You might say I'm one of the fans that has been lost.

You have to admit he perfectly fits the mold in who this university likes to hire. He's cheap and the only short list of head coaching hires he's been on are Tennessee's. Nobody else has seriously offered to make him a head coach in all these years.

Herman might want Steele and Garner, plus he'd bring Herb Hand. Marrone or O'Brien might be fine with that as well. Pretty much it would have to be a guy that isn't currently a head coach.

I don't think many want to hear this but I doubt they are even looking for a new head coach. The "waiting until we hire a new AD" is just a stalling tactic. Kevin Steele is our new head coach. I wish him well but I ain't on board with him or whoever (if I'm wrong about Steele) until I see actual wins in a few years time.

If the reported volume of violations are true, I expect at least a year of Steele. Maybe 2 or 3. He may be the coach through the whole probation period.

Yeah, the difference is one had the greatest QB of all times, one didn’t
Belichick also took the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in many years prior to coming to New England. He is also credited with one of the greatest single-game defensive game plans in history for the one that won the Giants Super Bowl XXV. Tony Dungy had Peyton Manning for seven seasons, all in Peyton's prime, and won a whopping one Super Bowl.

Just when I think I could never read anything dumber than some of the stuff I have seen on here, people surprise me. You win the award.

So Belichick didn’t have the greatest the greatest quarterback of all time? Just when I think I have read the best deflection of supporting their point of all time then ding, ding, ding you win the prize

Anyone have a list of coaches currently represented by Sexton? Seems like odds are it’s someone on that list.

Mayo is alread getting considered for HC positions in the NFL, He knows what its like to play for/coach in a successful organization under possibly the greatest coach in NFL history. Right now UT isnt going to go out and get a slam dunk, they are going to have to take a chance on someone less proven. Jerod Mayo is my guy and going to be a damn good HC sometime soon, rather UT grab him now because if they wait he will be gone this time next year.
Are you basing that on all the elite NFL coaches that Bellichick has produced?

If you hire Kiffin you will be mocked relentlessly by the rest of the SEC. I dont care if you go 13-0 every year for five straight years. No respect for that decision. Desperation to reach for some wild card you just hope can turn it around isn't worth it.

You need someone solid, respected, who can rebuild from scratch. Not a hail Mary.

If we were going 13-0 or 0-13 I don't give a tinkers damn what the rest of the SEC thinks.
