***Yeah, calling Steele Pruitt 2.0 is absolutely ridiculous. He ain’t Saban by any stretch but he sure ain’t JP bad***. JP has, in the span of 6 months, become the worst hire in TN history (arguably). Even without the recency bias, he’s top three worst and the fact he’s even mentioned in the same sentence with DD is a stunning turn of events. I think we were all pretty happy coming out of 2019, or at least cautiously optimistic. That is what incompetence precipitates. Rapid descent. Competence is a bulwark against the inclination to make change.
Uninformed? You can make excuses and rationalize WHY he’s career .500, but at the end of the day you are what your record says you are. I don’t know what message or credibility a past-his-prime NFL coach that is getting consideration by exactly zero NFL teams brings to a 17 year olds door. I like him JF, he seems like a good dude and I always appreciated how his teams competed, but dude is not the guy for a major college program.
Here are Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports list of potential coaching candidates

Tennessee coaching candidates: Pros and cons for Tom Herman, Hugh Freeze, Kevin Steele to take Vols job
Thanks, Jimmy!Under Freeze, the Ole Miss football program committed various recruiting and academic violations that figured in the NCAA's decision to expunge 27 of Freeze's wins and ban it from post-season play for two years. He resigned from Ole Miss after officials discovered that he had used a university cellphone to call escort services multiple times over the course of five years. NO
Thanks Dave. That's before Majors sooooooooBowden Wyatt coached Arkansas from 1953-1954(3-7 record in 1953 and 8-3 record in 1954).

Yeah but that was back in the day when baylor was nothing(similar to Kansas now) nobody was going to win there back then. I'm not advocating for Steele to be hc here just saying Baylor is a different program nowSteele was 9-36 (1-31 in conference) in four years as Baylor head coach. He was demonstrably worse at Baylor then Pruitt was here. You want to hire someone from Baylor hire Matt Rule who was turned them back around.
Dude they were 8-25 3 years prior to him arriving there. Baylor was the equivalent of Vandy/Kentucky in the 90’s. The high level of experience/responsibility as a DC/LB coach since then at major top programs is stellar. Lots of years in the game since then.Steele was 9-36 (1-31 in conference) in four years as Baylor head coach. He was demonstrably worse at Baylor then Pruitt was here. Right he hasn't been given another head coaching job in 18 years. It took a real coach like Art Briles to turn them around. WE need to be turned around. WE need a culture change. WE need a proven coach.Dude they were 8-25 3 years prior to him arriving there. Baylor was the equivalent of Vandy/Kentucky in the 90’s. I don’t want him to be the HC here. It’s an offensive game now...high scoring with bend/don’t break defenses for the majority in college football including this conference. We need an exciting younger hire but with a track record of winning/building a winning program. But to say he’s the same guy now as back then is bull $#!t.View attachment 340573
