Official 2025 CFP bracket

A true, honest playoff wouldn’t consist of a narrative/mind set of “all conferences are equal” by the committee. They’re not, and the SEC should probably have six teams in and ND should be in. Quality wins/record, final ranking and sos should be lead qualifiers with conference championships given less weight in the sense that a top 10 team shouldn’t take a big hit for losing to another top 10 team. More changes to be made. Letting a couple of “feel good” teams in the playoff that would get run off the field by the rest of the pack is ridiculous. That’s all it is at a basic level.

ND and any team that declines a bowl game should be suspended from playoff consideration for the next year. If these are young professionals they need to stop acting like a bunch of pansies..
NIL should be refunded 1/13th of what you made if you sit out of a bowl game..

None of this CFP stuff matters to me, at least not since last night. In my opinion, the best two teams in the country played each other last night and it was the best game I've seen in a long time, perhaps in over a decade. It was like watching a national title game. Two great teams on both sides of the ball (offense and defense), both physical, disciplined and grinding it out on every play. I saw very little (if at all) trash talking/showboating and very few penalties. Both teams played relatively mistake free, with the only "gaff" being OSU's missed 25 yd field goal. If either Indiana or OSU does not end up winning the national title, it might be a fluke.
hate to and i mean i hate to say it but Georgia would dog walk either one of them

So South Florida beat Florida. Florida beat Texas. Texas beat A&M and Vandy. Memphis beat South Florida. Tulane beat Memphis. Tulane also beat Duke.

I know that doesn't imply success - but it does imply that while these G5 teams could not hang in the P4 conferences, on a given night, anything could happen.

JMU and Tulane are there because the rules associated with the playoffs dictate, they get the spots.

The 12-game playoff has never been about putting the best 12 on the field - but about automatic bids for 5 teams coupled with 7 at large teams filling out the 12. Those teams that did not make it were NOT considered to be the best of the 7 at large teams. The 7 best at large teams that did not win their conferences were considered to be OSU, Oregon, Ole Miss, A&M, OU, Bama and Miami. Any team that did not make it would have to replace one of those 7 teams.

Just like ND, Vandy, Texas et al do not get to replace Indiana, Georgia or Texas Tech, they do not get to replace JMU and Tulane.

All the P4 conferences agreed to this! They did! The ACC let them down.

I thought an auto bid was given to the 4 P4 conference's champions and one non P4 conference champion 🤷‍♂️

No. In this iteration of the 12 team field, the top four highest rated conference champs get an auto bid and bye. The fifth highest ranked conference champ (Tulane) gets one auto bid and the highest ranked G5 (JMU) gets one auto. Duke had like five losses and was nowhere near the top 25. The rest of the field are at large. Things will change next year but still unclear what the new format will be.

If Bama is in BYU should be in.

I understand allowing lower schools to be in, but I thought that was reserved for teams like Boise when they go undefeated. Not teams who lost to Louisville and got routed by Ole Miss.

See the workaround BYU and Virginia was they were not already “in” so they’re not getting “punished” for losing. Bama also should have been ranked lower and in that same position of “to get in you have to win”

This actually isn't correct. For 2025 the five highest rated conference champions get the automatic bids, regardless of conference. That changes next year. For this year those five highest ranked conference champions are Indiana, Georgia, Texas Tech, Tulane and James Madison. That's why the ACC champion Duke did not get an automatic bid. They are ranked lower than those five. No byes were automatic due to being a conference champion. The byes went to whomever the committee decide to rank 1-4. Thus there ended up being one conference with two of the byes. Indiana and Ohio State.

100% then if that’s the case. I also don’t understand JMU and Tulane being in. Well I understand but let me rephrase. When I think of a non P4 getting in I think about the old undefeated Boise teams. Teams that you truly felt deserved a shot. I don’t feel that way about JMU nor Tulane. They are just gonna get throttled.
