The Point and the academy are one in the same.

To be fair, the academy is one helluva academic outfit and great in producing officers, but great officers can come from anywhere. Marshall was a VMI grad.

Eh....Army football might have been better in that decade--they won 9 games twice and 8 once-- but that particular team went 6-5 with losses to Holy Cross, Wake, Northwestern and Rutgers. It was a bad loss any way you shake it.

They did beat both of the other service academies in 86.

All kidding aside, I give all the Military Academy's sports teams a big :thumbsup: It's amazing that they can manage the academics, military training & the demands of a highly competitive sports program.

Until you actually go to a Vandy home game, you won't get it.
It's like seeing the Vols playing at a high school stadium - and we out number the home fans.

What highschool did you go to that has a stadium that seats 40k? That is bigger than stadiums in the ACC, Big East, and Pac-10. Not everybody gets to play their home games in ginormous cathedrals to football.

Father Ryan used to play it's home games there. The 1997 game when Father Ryan beat MBA had almost as many fans on Friday night than Vandy did for their game against a Div. II opponent the next day.

Not necessarily where I went to HS (Kingston TN- teeny stadium).
Come on down to Charlotte. Remember we got the Panthers here. The "money" High Schools have sports complexes that will blow your mind.
Everybody thinks they have to have one that will rival the Bank of America stadium.

My son was watching the Vandy game with me last year (he is 8) and wanted to know why the were named the commode doors? Why would you name your team after something that coves the toilet? I thought it was funny!

It's a little far south for most of you but if you ever get a chance... Check out a Valdosta vs. Lowndes Co. game....Un-freaking-believable... I've been to college games that didn't have as much atmosphere.... Never been to Texas on a high school friday or saturday but I hear it's like that there also.

Go Navy, Beat Army. what a nice surprise to see this thread hijacked by discussions about service academy football. even though i am a usna grad (97) i would gladly sacrifice them to a losing season (though still beating army of course) for successful UT seasons.
