Offering to double Gundys salary

I am finally beginning to see why people hate Tennessee fans. Tennessee could hire the greatest coach in the history of college football and some of you still wouldn’t be happy

I have a buddy who is an OSU alum. He said he's hearing that Tennessee offered him $42M over 5 years, which lines up with the $8.4 rumors we're hearing.

You're an idiot. He has a 75% win percentage in the shadow of OU. The resources available at UT will propel him further up. This is a Homerun hire.

+1

All these guys in here know... is the SEC????????

Gundy would be a gland slam and can out couch Johnny and Fulmer all day long

I like Gundy, he is a monster of scoring points but 8 mil???? Hope they offer 3 for a DC...
WTF!
I would offer Frost 6 first.

Take what ever the dollar amount is and take a swipe at Petersen.

If Currie and Haslam hadn't botched this so badly, you'd have that option.

Instead, you have to offer Gruden money to Gundy to block the other boosters, board and administrators from turning their back on Jimmy no matter his past money and influence.

Not the highest paid.

Wrong... $8.4 million would make him the highest paid coach in terms of base salary.

The two above him are Saban ($11.1m) and Swinny ($8.5m)

Saban’s $11.1m for 2017 includes a $4m one time signing bonus for his new contract. His base salary is $11.1 – $4 = $7.1m

Swinny’s $8.5m for 2017 includes 2 bonuses.. $1.5m signing bonus and an additional $1m for winning the 2016 National Championship (which was played in 2017). His base salary is $8.5 – $1.5 – $1 = $6m

If Gundy is offered a base salary of $8.4m, he will be the highest paid coach in college football.

You can offer but what's the poi t if he's not coming here. And what has he proven he can win at ucf........seriously Gundy won on much bigger stage.....

I do have one solid source. UT is meeting Gundy now. I'm going silent until I find out more. Huge number being thrown around, not only for him but staff.

I am not sure why Currie has still got a job today...much less access to the purse...

Not sure any coach would be willing to take his word for it...i am sure they vetted him...

Currie is desperate give a desperate person a wad of money to fix his mess

Yes, and Pete Carroll is making just over $8 mil in Seattle.

Honest question, can someone explain how this negatively affects us? I understand not wanting to pay more than someone is worth, but I'm not seeing the negative affects. Shouldn't we be happy they are willing to open up the checkbook for a legit top coach?

In other sports, I get the idea of not wanting to overpay for a player. Teams have a budget and you don't want to get stuck with a bad contract. But for a school that spends as much on their athletics as we do, I guess I just don't see the big deal.
